Somewhere I seem to recall a model of this (or another presidential candidate's campaign cars) but do not now remember who or what scale. Anyone else know anything about it that could refresh my memory?

The early Lionel/MPC baby Madison cars featured Presidential campaign observation cars. The B&O car was for Ike.

Overland did one in "O" brass. Similar to the pics, but it had (best I recall) 3 speakers. I think it was based on the PRR Queen Mary, which had several incarcerations.

When I posted this investigation report from CBS 60 minutes, my thoughts were. DID social media actually play that big a deal in the election. The article is saying that Facebook played a big part in getting Trump elected. Not the Russians but the republican party with the help from embedded Facebook personal.

Will social media be the battleground in the next election. If so then it has rendered main stream media irrelevant.

Main stream media had me convinced for over a year that Clinton would be the next president. They were taking poles constantly and posting the results. If the article is correct then apparently the majority of the people get their news from social media.

In the article it says that Trump was not convinced about digital content until after he won. Even twitter was on board with the republican party because they saw that he was using their media and they helped to promote it.

If that is the case it is no wonder he keeps pounding out those tweets.

I guess that because most people here like myself don't use social media that this article flew over their head. It did mine until I took the time to comprehend it. But I still don't know for sure.

Considering how active he was as a President, that seems odd to me.

I thought so, too, when I heard it stated on one of those history shows. They were pretty emphatic about it, as I recall, Tom. It's not something I would have come up with on my own. I was surprised upon hearing it but figured that since he was President during part of my childhood my impression of him as a President was that of a child. I wish I could offer bibliographical information on the show I learned that viewpoint from, but it was quite some time ago.

Refreshing to hear it might not be the Russians or the Russians only. Hard to know what to believe listening to anything on cable news channels.

They won't allow that and they will continue to reinvent themselves, just as they've done for decades. But, if this is really what happened, the next election will be filled with even more lies and mistruths

Yes, it was pretty ugly and scary for awhile and I sorta think it got some lazy voters off their backside to prevent her from accomplishing her goal. So, maybe it backfired. I'm an independent, but voted GOP as the lesser of two evils. I detest Clinton. The choice was horribly poor. One was a polished political crook/cheater and the other just a crook/cheater.

I registered GOP a while back so I could help a friend running in a local race. Doesn't affect my voting one Iota. I generally vote against someone rather than for, meaning as Butch says: "The lesser of two evils."

As for how I decide, I mostly base my choice on public appearances of televised debates. They can stick all those polls up their arse, and why anyone would take anything on social media seriously, I can't fathom. I won't be tweeting anytime soon unless it's in the shower!    They may lie to us in speeches and debates, but at least it's from the horse's mouth and not something twisted by the media. Seems everyone has an agenda these days. As my late Daddy said: "Don't believe anything your hear and about half of what you see, and you'll do OK!"

The car Overland did was the Ferdinand Magellan. It still exists in a museum in Florida.

The Magellan was originally one of several 3972-plan private-party observation cars owned by Pullman and leased out to those who could afford them. When FDR was president, it was selected from the group and rebuilt with many things such as armour, communications (paired with a B&O combine or a baggage, I've forgotten which, that was filled with com gear), and a chair lift. It was the Airforce One of its day.

In Truman's era is was the star of his Whistlestop Campaign, along with selected Pullmans to accommodate staff, press, &c. It was either Eisenhower or Kennedy that caused the car to be disposed of; the Smithsonian apparently blew the acquisition and Gold Coast got it. They lent it to Reagan who whistlestopped again with it, otherwise it is on display last I knew.

Of the sister cars, all named for explorers, several became business cars on NYC, and if I remember correctly one of the sister cars is still with us.

I believe the Queen Mary was a Parlor Obs to a different floorplan (3957) and had nothing to do with these cars nor the models from OMI. OMI did two versions of Magellan, one in the FDR configuration and one as Reagan used it.

BTW, how does one incarcerate a parlor obs?

I have had a Facebook page for years now but only looked at it once in a while. Now I'm into slot cars and there are a few slot car forums but not much activity. But on Facebook I'm in a half dozen or more slot car groups and thats where all the activity is. Judging from these groups and eBay slot cars might be making a comeback, there is lots of people into them. This is new to me and I think kind of new. these Facebook groups. They have groups for everything. I like looking at pictures of rusty old abandoned cars and am in a couple of groups for that. I'm too old for hot rods anymore but I'm in a couple of Vega groups too. I am sure there is a bunch of model train groups too. I hope they don't wipe out our train forums, I prefer forums.

The "presidential campaign car" that I remembered was most definitely a Walthers/scratch-built car as it was many years before the brass models mentioned were produced; maybe even before the importers were in business.

I've used mt FB account to keep up with my family's photos, etc. Plus a couple for right-wing rants, of course :) these Facebook groups. They have groups for everything. <snip>I am sure there is a bunch of model train groups too.
There are many. I'm a member of several and find them rewarding I hope they don't wipe out our train forums. I prefer forums.
There seems to be a lot more activity. Plus it's easier to post photos. Also, likely to be of no interest to the organs of state security :(

I much prefer the forums and e-mail probably because I am able to do them better than the other things.
