Re: In the News
I find it fascinating that the advance and retreat of ice gouged-out the Great Lakes and filled them with freshwater, as well as dropping significant numbers of the classic Glacial Erratic, easily discernible as they lie atop many areas in northern NJ and NY, especially Long Island, of course, hunks of Canadian granite possessed of somewhat rounded-off shapes characteristic of their having been dragged and rolled along by the ice and then left where they lay as the ice melted away.
Some can be prodigious. As an example, Glen Rock , NJ has one sitting as its namesake amidst the hustle-and-bustle of the community, in a little corral, noteworthy in size, typical Canadian granite in appearance, obviously not native to the area, and with the characteristic rounding-off of sharp edges.

It was a great ride while it lasted.

That can be said to have been true of a lot of things, huh.

Indeed, but my exposure to the 2 you note was nil.

You're probably better off, and none the worse.

In our current cancel culture where they dredge up anything they can find from a person's past, sometimes it can backfire up their butt.

Best to not put anything in print or writing or say anything that might get recorded or somebody will find it and use it against the writer/speaker.
Freedom of speech is gone.

Yup, while there's a heat wave going on across the south in the mid-90's.

Are you saying there are sites with more freedom to express oneself and with a broader array of topics than we enjoy here ?!?!
And what have you found threatening about posting here?
I'd very much like to have that information from you, sir.
Re: In the News
Murph, I think what he is referring to is the whole internet. We are not anonymous on the internet. They have software that scans the internet looking for key (trigger) words about what people are saying. Our country is headed for people control the same as China. Just on a different level.
Don't assume that you actually have freedom of speech in this country.

New York City's Commission on Human Rights announced on Thursday that residents could face up to $250,000 in fines if they use terms such as "illegal alien ... with intent to demean, humiliate or harass a person."
Who gets to determine ( with intent to demean, humiliate or harass a person )

Re: In the News
Might want to read that all the way through...............
And, we've never really had 100% freedom of speech in the country and every year that gets reduced
As for monitoring the internet; nothing new there - our country has been spying on its citizens since day one. That that would be extended to the internet, phone systems, etc. should surprise no one.

Re: In the News
I agree, Rufus. My point is simply that what you write or say could be used against you at anytime.
Not long ago you could make a statement and then deny that you said it but today everybody has their phone ready to record at all times.
As to freedom of speech on this forum, it is probably the least controlled of model train forums but something you say here can be taken
and used elsewhere and possibly out of context. I would not want to be seeking a position of any kind today that requires a serious background
check. I don't mean that I have done anything wrong
but if something is questionable at all it will be found.
Oh my. I sound like a conspiracy theorist.

That's not being a conspiracy theorist. This is what is going on today.
I have read where companies are asking applicants applying for a job to give their passwords for social media accounts so the company can review their past behavior on the internet.
