Man!! I've started pricing some 90 dia. track sections. Gargraves is around 9.75 a piece and Atlas is around 8.75 as well. This stuff is pricey!!!!   MTH's 80 dia. scaletrax is only 4.99.

Renovo PRR wrote:While I know plenty of people who grew up with a 30-30 I consider it the worst rifle to give to any youth. IMHO it is unsafe in the hands of many kids.

My youngest is 12 and she can do some very good shooting open sights at 100 yards with an AR 15. She is not permitted to handle the 30-30 even though she is a very good shot and has great gun safety sense.

Well Mitch if it falls down you only need to go to Ford City or Tarentum to cross the river. I still say it would make a great underwater structure for walleye.

Let me clarify that for a second.

The 30-30, which is most commonly associated with the lever action, had a safety issue, with one in the chamber, that the hammer could inadvertently fall on the firing pin, setting off the chambered round.

A bad situation, even in the hands of a seasoned, experenced shooter.

Both Marlin, and Winchester (the major makers of lever action firearms) addressed that issue back in the late 60s and early 70s with cross bolt safeties and wide hammer spurs. (to clear scopes and such)

IMHO, a day trip to the local gun club's range night, or better yet, to a high school's shooting match (best place I can think of, is the Jerome Sportsmans club range, Northern Somerset County Target Shooters) Let him learn the ins and outs of shooting, in a very safe, and supportive, of young shooters enviroment.

Another idea, is take him to a J.A.K.E.S. event. JAKES is a youth outreach of the National Wild Turkey Federation and an OUTSTANDING program for anyone under the age of 99!!!!

As for kids shooting each other, grab a copy of Ted Nugent's book God Guns and Guts and see the chapter on gun education.

If anyone has any doubts, I'm VERY firmly in favor of educating our kids about firearms safety!!!

I flew on plenty of C-130's in the Marines. Beautiful aircraft. :D Here's a couple of C-5's on the tarmac I shot today. Makes the ol' Hercules kinda miniscule!!!! You can see a C-130 just to the right.

Wow, spectacular views. All of them.

I've had a dream for a long time, about getting an ultralight. I have the room for a landing strip. We have the perfect surroundings, full of open farmer's fields, if I'd need to set 'er down before I wanted.
One more thing that would happen over the redhead's cold dead body.
SOB. Seems to be a pattern here.
Might be a simple solution too. Something in the 'muzzle' line. 8)
If so, I'd better get it on right the first time, and in her sleep, or I'm one cold dead hobo.

I remember landing in a C-141 Starlifter at Utapao, Thailand, in '71, and there were 2 C-5A Galaxies on the Tarmac. What unbelievable monsters they are. Biggest friggin' airplane I'd ever seen. The Air Force put us on 2 C-130s, for our 8 1/2 hour flight into Diego Garcia.

It was kind of cool on the Island. The Air Force sent in 2 planes each week, usually on Monday and Thursday, with our mail, spare parts, and BOOZE. All our whiskey came in those little airline bottles, (1.6oz.) in 12 packs. Jack Daniels and Dewers' Scotch, $3.25 a case.

When pilots had to lay over because of time limits, they would take guys up and buzz around the island. I shot a roll of film with my old Yashica 35mm hanging on in the back of the plane with the tailgate open. They are somewhere in this house, but only my wife would know where. It was awesome lookin' down on a corral atoll. White sand beach, then gray white water, then light blue water as it got deeper, and finally very dark blue, nearly black water as it went to 600 ft deep about a half mile off the isle.

I hear ya, pal. Kinda like our new cars. Communications between onboard computers using CanC, CanC Diagnostic, Can B, PCI, LIN, CCD, and 2 other busses that the names escape me right now. Folks don't realize what electronic wizardry has to happen just to turn the friggin' headlights on when they hit that switch.

In 1989, on the 20th annaversary of the Moon Landing, Walter Chronkite said "today's cars have more computing power that all of NASA had for the lunar landing project"

Which is why I prefer my old Heeps!

Andre, some photos are allowed, others are not. Depends on the base, mission, and phase of the Moon.

Ang, No not that base.
Andre, I've never seen any "don't take picture signs" there, plus I never stated where or what the base was. From that picture it could be anywhere!!!

So the rumor is Williams was bought by Bachman. Question is "why"?
What would bachman do with that archaic and bland tooling unless they sell them cheaper then William's over inflated prices. If Bachman was going to venture into the O market one would think more along the Atlas line of quality.

Dennis, now that calls for a Friday cocktail. Beautiful work and some of the most realistically modeled water I've ever seen.
