Maybe the bells were too loud.

Maybe, or it was just too much trouble go up there and clean out the birds and other vermin that tend to move in to such spaces.

Church in my distant youth had bells but played a recording; church about a mile from my place in Pa does ring a real bell - sound really carries out in rural areas....

Did you know that if you put your ear up to a stranger’s leg you can hear them say, “What the F’k are you doing?”

Gambrel roof......and a bit of a crack there in the front of the brick?

Built around 1730, so it's got some age on it. Purportedly one of the oldest intact brick churches in the state. Original cost was said to have run 140,000 pounds of tobacco, used predominantly to purchase/import English brick.

Attending church for a very long time was a sombre and serious affair.

I really like the turret on the house to the right.

I agree...it's somewhat unusual to see a turret that starts on the second floor.
