My understanding is that when a whale "breaches" the surface like that, that they are using the force of the water against their bodies to scrape barnacles and other organisms off their hides.

Or maybe they are just having fun.

Before my time is up, I'd love the privilege of seeing and feeling such a moment.

When we took the cruise ship up to Alaska we saw several that looked like the one in the picture. When docked in Juneau we took a side excursion on a small boat to an area were there were whales. Got to see several Orcas up close

I'm actually happy for you, Hondo. Bravo!

I would imagine the sounds of such moments were beyond describing in words.

Here is a video that someone else took to give you an idea of what it was like.

Also when we were on the cruise we were in Skagway and took the train ride up to white pass and back.

I read the quicky-quiz item on my Word Genius page.
My guess/estimation was the same as yours.

...anybody else want to make a guess?

Seen in-print, Streeter Lecka/Getty Images:
Have you seen the latest photo of Jedrick Wills, football for Alabama?
For me, it's beyond words. Does he really have to work that extra-hard for attention?
...unique and worth notice, IMO.

Jedrick Wills Jr.
American football offensive lineman
Height: 6′ 5″
Weight: 320 lbs
Jedrick Wills licks his lips at Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. Lots of them.

A probable top ten draft pick offensive lineman - does he? Probably so. Will it pay off? Probably.

Orcas are not whales, they are members of the dolphin family. They are apex predators and known to kill great white sharks.

Don't know how they would make out tangling with a sperm whale or a giant squid.

Suspect that a sperm whale might prevail, just because of sheer size. Sperm whales have been found with sucker marks from squids on their bodies. Not sure which of those prevailed, if either.
