California about to 'break'

Newsom says California about to 'break' amid flood of illegal migrants when Title 42 expires
Newsom said illegal immigration policies 'not working' and US government must take 'responsibility and ownership'

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California warned Monday that President Biden's plan to reverse former President Donald Trump's border policies could "break" his state.

The Biden administration is planning to lift the Trump-era Title 42 policy, which allows police and border officers to expedite the expulsion of illegal immigrants.

Newsom, speaking to ABC News on Monday, said, "The fact is, what we’ve got right now is not working and is about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership."

Newsom claimed the U.S. government is sending "more and more" migrants to California because the state is "taking care of folks."

"The more we do, the burden is placed disproportionate on us," he said.

"We're already at capacity at nine of our sites," Newsom continued. "We can't continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address.… The reality is, unless we're doing what we're doing, people will end up on the streets."

Newsom's comments come as a surprise after years of championing policies to accommodate and expand protections to illegal migrants entering California.

About 22% of California's nearly 11 million immigrants are in the U.S. illegally, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.

In September, Newsom signed a bill allowing illegal immigrants to obtain state ID, saying, "We’re a state of refuge — a majority-minority state, where 27% of us are immigrants."

In January, Newsom unveiled his 2022-23 California budget plan, which included universal health care benefits for all low-income residents, including illegal migrants.

Someone on this forum that lives in San Diego should love this one.

California is a bellwether state for many liberal ideas and soon politicians may be proposing a similar per-mile tax in other states.

San Diego wants to tax people out of their cars and into public transportation
A new plan from San Diego County's Regional Transportation Agency wants to make driving so expensive that you'll be forced to take the bus or the train

San Diego County’s Regional Transportation Agency’s (SANDAG) latest transportation plan is designed to make driving so expensive that you succumb to public transportation. In addition to the current gas tax and registration fees, SANDAG’s plan adds three new half-cent sales tax increases, over 800 miles of San Diego County freeway lanes converted to toll lanes, and a mileage tax for every mile driven to pay for their $165 billion public mass transit plan.

SANDAG’s finance plan states, "Charging fees for the transportation infrastructure that people use—for example, charging users for each mile they drive on the highway—can change travel behavior."

It’s a bait and switch -- freeway dollars, gas tax dollars, and registration fees promised for road improvements instead pay for costly public mass transit projects that less than 3% of the public uses.

Given the number of El Salvadorans, Nicaraguans, etc., that comprise this crop of migrants, it seems to me the real crisis is on the southern Mexican border.

Hardly new and has very little to do with liberal or conservative states - it's all about the money and it's being done all over the country, and it works. People do change their driving behavior.

That 3% might be the starting point, but it's not the end point.

Over 1.1 million driver's licenses have been given to illegal migrants in California since 2014, according to state data. Additionally, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a law in September allowing illegal immigrants to get state IDs.

I wonder if all those illegals have car insurance if they drive a car ? I have known a few people that have been in a accident with an illegal and they were SOL when it came to getting their car fixed.

Trento NJ. would hand out licenses like candy. That was pre 9,11. A private business did the state's licensing. After the world trade center attack. NJ took it back over. Still people have other ways of getting a license.

Wait until some BIG shot gets hammered (as in fatal car accident) by one of these people. We'll hear the whining/boo hooing all the way back on the East coast.
