Robo calling sumbichez

I answered a call a few moments ago, saying Hello because the caller-id said, MasterCard , of which I have a couple . The number was 1-636-722-6100, and the female voice asked, right off the bat, "Is this (my name)? Like an un-alert dam fool, I replied , "Yes," and immediately knew I had made a mistake, since we are never supposed to answer affirmatively.

When I called her a dirtybich and asked her to prove she was MasterCard , the line went silent.

Have I injured myself? To what extent?

All they have "gained" is confirmation that you are linked to that phone number. I never "answer" the phone directly. I wait 5 seconds to see if it is a robo call.

With use of voip technology the scammers can spoof their number and even caller ID. There is a way to get your phone to show the IP address instead of the phone number. It's not an easy setting to access and is only available on newer phones. We've actually had spoofed calls claiming it was our own phone originating the call.

There has been a rash of recent calls locally purporting to be the FBI. They are allegedly calling from the local police station. One neighbor used his cell phone to call the local police who assured them there were no FBI agents there.

If you feel like having some fun and don't mind wasting time, ask them who they are and why they are calling. Then feedback the same info.

I work for them too.

We don't have an office in such and such.

Do you mind if I verify your id with your supervisor via my cell phone?

They usually hang up real quick.

I just now went to my MC site and checked each account. No transactions other than those made by me, in the past and recently. I'll keep a close-eye. Thanks.

It can and has been reported as a way to sign you up for stuff you never agreed to except they may have a sound recording of your voice saying "yes".

Vigilance is in order. My wife froze the credit accounts and every now and again she gets a letter from some bank or whatever informing her that they were unable to open an account for her -- this would be an example of folks trying to use her info to open a credit card account, etc. Denied!

Nice spoof on the phone number. A man called me from that number to let me know I qualified for lower interest rates on my Visa. While he talked on and on I checked the phone number and found it was a Mastercard number. CLUE! CLUE! CLUE! I then let him know I was reporting him to Mark Brnovich, Arizona Attorney General. The man hung up immediately. (If I had Mastercard I might have engaged him in further conversation.)
