Definitely a Chrissy Hynde fan. I think it stinks that one of my favs, My City was Gone, is associated with shit like Rash Lame-O.

Annie Lennox - many albums of great music

Agree 100%. Here contribution to the Lord of Rings, especially the song "Into the West" when Bilbo and Frodo are sailing off, is one of the most haunting and beautiful songs I've heard.......period. The woman had a hell of a voice. I wonder who writes her material?

The songs she performs seem so much a part of her (esp. her persona) that maybe she writes what she knows and feels in the music ?

Wonderful. I went directly to that link you provided and loved every second of her singing that song. Thank you for recommending and for the link, HONDO. There is a large place in our lives and in our hearts for such music, I believe.

Early on when she was part of the Eurythmics, might have been her partner, Dave Stewart. Here is one he did for saxophonist Candy Dulfer with him playing guitar:

Candy Dulfer. Occasionally she also sings.

Looks great in a mini-skirt. :D :D :D She was 44 when she did this one

My all time favorite for a girl playing a Sax and singing is Rindy Ross/Quarterflash. Fabulous voice :D
They started out in Portland Oregon and still perform there today. She is in her 60s and still looks and sings great. Oh and still married to the say guy. Rindy and Marv are still happily married. :) :) :)

Just read that Lennox wrote "Into the West" so that's why she sang it. I'm sure Enya could have done it justice too.

In the commentaries and documentaries accompanying the extended DVD edition of the film, director Peter Jackson explains that the song wasn't inspired by Frodo, but by the premature death from cancer of young New Zealand filmmaker Cameron Duncan, whose work had impressed Jackson and his team. The first public performance of the song was at Duncan's funeral.

I can't believe there was a dry eye in the parlor when that song was played.

"This is what music is all about - expression of the purest. No auto-tune, no pyrotechnics. Only Lennox and a very competent group of musicians."

Oscar 2004 = Into the West by Annie Lennox
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtBgXfDhDls

Lyrics
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
The night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home
And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All Souls pass
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows…
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping
And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

The owls may indeed not be what they seem but still serve an imperative function: they remind us to look into the darkness.
