Has anyone noticed that Andre has vanished? Andre, are you?

I love Gettysburg, but I've only been there twice. 1 day is simply a loser; there's just so much to see. I keep tellin' the Old Girl that the next trip should be for 2 or 3 days, on bicycles! That way you can stop and look at anything you want for as long as you want. Gotta remember to carry extra water bottles though; water is in short supply on the field.
The one thing that gets me, having been there, and also reading what I can find on the Battle, is the enormous size of the Battle Field. If one tops out on Oak Hill, and looks south and east, or climbs either of the towers at Culps Hill or the one on Longstreets' line and looks east, north and west, it makes one wonder how armies could communicate at all. From what I've seen on the Pennsylvania Cable Network in those Battle Field Walks that they usually show over 4th of July week, the park service has been clearing a lot of the wooded areas and restoring them to 1863 fields, which will open it up and then it will seem even bigger.

Tramp, Andre is still around. You just won't find him here anymore. Look here:http://www.ogaugehobbyist.com/wp/forum/ or here:http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/eve/forums

Dirt, might that long spike be a bridge spike, used to "nail" bracing timbers together on wooden trestles?

Aha! Could be, and makes sense. We found this a bit downstream from where there was a small trestle bridge over a mill race umpteen years ago, and there have been a few major floods through there, so maybe it migrated. It sure didn't make sense for where it was located, because that area was your run-of-the-mill track bed.
And it sure looks like it's been buried awhile.

Thanks!
