Fasten your belt, and from a rolling 10mph start, floor it.(and hang on). Listen to the sound of the 6.1L Hemi as it twists up to 6000rpm, then the electronically shifted automatic hits 2nd and slams you even deeper into the seat, 3, 4, and you look down and you're doin' a hundred right now, and there's plenty left. Huge 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS and Electronic Stability, and a style that still says 1970. But hey, what do I know. I had a '69 Roadrunner.

They don't build 'em like they used to, and it's a damned good thing!

Mitch, Our little berg here uses the new Challenger for some of there patrol cars, as well as a few Camaros, haven't had a chance to chat with any of the local motorheads to find out what they're running in them. Them's the "Big Boys", for the more mundane patrol work they still have some of the older Fords and, I'm not shuckin' ya, a couple VW Beetles.

Dewey,

Is that fair? A '49 Dodge B1B could do tractor duty. It was known as a "Pilot-house Truck" because the cab resembled the pilot house on a tug-boat. Can you share a photo of yours?

They gotta do everything different in California. What good is a 2 door police car other than a chase car. Back here, the 4 door charger with the same power train is the cop car.

Really sad day for me and the family. Our beloved Great Dane, Major, was outside this morning when something happened that happens only to large breed dogs. His stomach flipped over, and he immediately began to bloat. We raced him to the emergency vet at Monroeville, (33 miles), and the x-ray confirmed our worst. The vet said $2500 to $3500 for the surgery, and had it not been for the fact that we're already treating him for Lyme Disease and hip displaysia, we would have had it done. One of the hardest decisions the wife and I have ever had to make, but we had to put him down. We held him and talked to him while the vet injected the chemicals, and we both bawled like babies. We knew that his quality of life wouldn't have been better for much longer with the bone problems, but Lord, we're gonna miss that dog.

Mitch,

Damn, you made my eyes tear up. It is always sad when a pet dies. They are members of the family too. May Major rest in peace.

Jim,

I really liked your photo of the Canada Goose. I wanted to make some comments about it, but my internet connection was down. (It still is, I am using my wife's connection for this message.)

I had a pet Branta canadensis maxima for a while. I had to get a permit and have my goose pen inspected by AZ Game and Fish. The Game and Fish guy said that no species of Canada goose lives in Arizona and they wish to keep it that way. If my goose got loose and found another goose, that could be the beginning of an Arizona population. Arizona does not want what happened in Pennsylvania to happen here.

What happened in Pennsylvania?

By 1935 there were no Canada Geese in Pennsylvania due to over hunting. The species in your photo, the Giant Canada Goose (Branta canadensis maxima) was thought to be extinct. In the early 1960s, however, small groups of this subspecies were rediscovered and federal and state wildlife agencies began a concerted effort to rebuild their populations. Any tendency they may have had to migrate was affected by their captive propagation. Such birds have come to be known as "resident" Canada geese: those who tend to stay year-round in the rich and provident urban and suburban landscapes. Their recovery from a few to millions is considered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as an outstanding example of wildlife management in North America.

Today, thanks to U.S. and Canadian hunting restrictions, three distinct Canada goose subspecies occur in Pennsylvania. The other two, Branta canadensis interior and Branta canadensis canadensis, leave every summer to breed in Canada.

Thank you all for your sympathy and condolences.

Over the last 33 years since we've lived here, we've buried quite a few dogs up in the back yard, because we've always had at least 2, and sometimes 3. But this dog was very special, and there was no way to know that yesterday morning when I was playin' with him, that it would be his last day. This one really hurts.

Mitch,
I was just watching CBS Sunday Morning, and Ben Stein was talking about a friend of his who died, some reknowned author or such like that.
His last words before he died?... "Where is my dog?"

The rest of the 'opinion' piece was about the recession, and how it doesn't matter how poor you are, how much money you've lost, that you've been laid off, or never had a good position in Life... your dog loves you without condition or prejudice.

Thought of you immediately.
