Those attending could post some pictures it would be greatly appreciated.
Bill D usually brings some nice items, curious what he’ll bring.
Thanks,
Aaron

Re: Stout auction today.
That TTT had a history and two people wanted it, so the price escalated quickly. Depending what your tax rate is and add the premium fee, the true price was $5,0000 plus shipping. Not worth that to one of the bidders who walked away. Stout’s is the only place you can get a few hundred dollars worth ...

Re: Evolution of a brass detail casting
Butch, Producing parts in volume-no, not that I’m aware. A few parts have been produced by this method but only for individual use. It has its challenges. It is difficult to find casting companies in my area and none want to do small production number projects. One company agreed but the cost of mol...

Re: Evolution of a brass detail casting
But, I do understand your point about the casting improvements over the years. There’s some really nice stuff guys spent the time on making masters and that dedication shows when compared to earlier castings. This is an area where 3D printing can really be useful building custom components. The deta...

Re: Evolution of a brass detail casting
Butch, I agree with Pete. All my USH/KTM FEFs have a generator that looks nothing like one in your picture. The solder joint also hints at it being a replacement part someone’s used in the past, the USH joints were for the most part “clean”. This one is clearly not. Or, it’s not solder at all, possi...

Re: FEF Project...Many Questions and Photos over time
If we only knew Scale Hardware would cease to exist at the time, many of us would have bought as much as we could for future stock/projects. The PSC NBW castings are ok, just not as much selection in size and quality IMO. The SH stuff was perfect for the “necessary” level of detail that some folks p...

Butch,
That’s a nice torch setup for the $.
The 3rd Rail casting alone will really improve the model. There’s something about putting on a nicely detailed stack, it just changes the whole look of the model.

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction
It was about what I expected. A few surprises. You just never know about an auction…. This is the largest two rail O scale auction I can recall since the 2017 Jim Seacrest one. The overall quality of the models was exceptional. I watched the entire auction live, saw at one point just shy of 450 bidd...

Re: FEF conversion project
Hi Butch, Just saw this. Been busy. Instead of doing all the that, ie, desolder and reshaping the beam, perhaps buying a straight PSC pilot beam casting would be easier. Or using a brass stock piece & add detail as necessary. Then you simply solder your new pilot in picture to the new beam. For ...

Re: Brass Blasting Upgrade
…. There really is no better way for prep'ing a brass model for paint in my experience. If anything needs resoldered you'll find it, the surface gets a nice even tooth to it for the paint to "grab", the surface comes out clean of oils and flux. …. I agree with you. It works well and is si...

Re: Amazing but sorta useless facts
Sunset/3rd Rail recently announced a few brass steam locomotives. If they’re built TBD…we’ll see if the orders are there for a run. But I found it hopeful that “new” brass steam isn’t completely dead…just a few months ago SM said new brass steam was no longer on the horizon. Times may have changed. ...
