Re: FEF conversion project
Hi Butch, Just saw this. Been busy. Instead of doing all the that, ie, desolder and reshaping the beam, perhaps buying a straight PSC pilot beam casting would be easier. Or using a brass stock piece & add detail as necessary. Then you simply solder your new pilot in picture to the new beam. For ...

Re: Brass Blasting Upgrade
…. There really is no better way for prep'ing a brass model for paint in my experience. If anything needs resoldered you'll find it, the surface gets a nice even tooth to it for the paint to "grab", the surface comes out clean of oils and flux. …. I agree with you. It works well and is si...

I advertised for a coal tender on YS and a West Coast buddy read the post. He had a USH coal tender and needed the oil tender, so we just traded...............both of us got what we needed.

That’s great news! I’m glad it worked out!

Re: Amazing but sorta useless facts
Sunset/3rd Rail recently announced a few brass steam locomotives. If they’re built TBD…we’ll see if the orders are there for a run. But I found it hopeful that “new” brass steam isn’t completely dead…just a few months ago SM said new brass steam was no longer on the horizon. Times may have changed. ...

Re: PSC Challenger and Tender Water Hatch Dimensions
Butch,
What a beautiful model. Each new picture you post impresses me with the attention to detail the importer included. With your updates it’ll be one of the best Challengers ever. Look forward to how it progresses.

Re: OSW report 2025
First time attendee. Wanted to do this show for years and made a late decision to make it reality. The hotel honored the OSW rate when I called-day prior to show-well past the May 4 deadline. Staying at host hotel helps negotiating next year’s show rate, and the convenance factor made it easy. Trave...

…., it will be interesting to see if Eric is present at the O scale Chicago show in March and what the news will be. JMO Yeah, it’ll be the same BS as last year…”models are coming…production delays…going to deliver the best…”. Not one model delivered to date, as far as I am aware. Hope it changes f...

By the way, really nice weathering on the Mike - sometimes we forget that UP had USRA Mikes with Sweeney stacks.
Thank you. It was a fun project.
Thinking about the slip-roll still…

I have been using brass tube for boilers. My suppliers have dwindled. One way out is a “slip-roll.” Anybody familiar with this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/124265759915?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201210111314%26meid%3D71b9fc2bd60e4ce0bfe7674505c...
