Re: Weekend Photos - January 2026

11 - yuck! That is what I said when I changed from MS-DOS to Windows 1.0. I have hated every upgrade since then. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55041233362_bfe375a0ed_z.jpg Well, I wouldn't go back to IBM's Punched-Card System, but I did like Fortran for creating programs for the IBM system. I...

Re: Weekend Photos - January 2026

The new Lionel catalog is out: I did see a diecast truck/frame PS1 boxcar on page 76 for $119.99. Features some interior details, so not a comparative match for those discussed above, but not too far off. I saw that too. I wonder if Lionel has been continuously offering cars with diecast frames sin...

Re: Weekend Photos - January 2026

I probably asked this before, but what was the perceived advantage of a diecast frame? More weight, certainly, so better tracking through turnouts, accessories, and over rail joints? You sorta answered your own question, and Hondo74 had a good answer. The following answer is not perceived. Because ...

Re: Weekend Photos - January 2026

After starting the new year with an image of Lionel's D&H Heavy boxcar, I gave in to Microsoft's persistent prompts to change my PIN (for security reasons) and updated my Windows 10 PIN. That was the end of my computer. The next time I turned it on, I got, "Something happened, and your PIN ...

It was close to achieving a 27-inch-diameter curve, but it derailed. I think I can make it do 27. It depends on how much room there is inside the shell for the motor to swing.

Great find, Healey! Re: Weekend Photos - December 2025

It's fun playing with the old Nikon P5100, trying to get some interesting shots...almost as much fun as trying to wind the Bing clockwork for a precise station stop. Almost impossible. I understand about the clockwork engine, but not the P5100—the camera has an outstanding feature, manual control. ...

Re: Denver & Salt Lake Survivor

Erik C Lindgren Fine Art, thank you for occasionally putting your mug in a photo; otherwise, I would not believe your images are of a model. Of course, that makes a problem for an image of a real locomotive. Just because you are in the photo (or in the locomotive) does not mean it is not a model. It...

Would you believe JW Stanfield (the artist who owns the original copyrighted photo) is the one who used Gemini AI to put the GG1 in his own photo?

The point Erik made, " This may be an original beautiful Mike Danneman shot of a UP/DRGW coal train he took in 2004 on film. Hours in a car, long hike, climb, work, effort, and any other scenario, honest hard work we all do to source our images; just to be hacked by some damn algorithm, spit ou...
