I threw it on the track to see if it would run...it did, forward/reverse and smoked like crazy (from the smoke unit, lol). Wow! Did smoke come out the sides of the locomotive? Looks more like F-series vs E8/9 series. I think GM was always involved. Not sure. Nice photos, though. Edit: in 1930 GM made EMD a subsidiary. Lately it was split off - The GM series are often confused with the E series because the GM series were built with A1A-A1A and Co-Co railroad power trucks....
