Re: 2 Rail Layout Videos (2 rail only please!)

Interesting small exhibition layout with working vehicles and transloading crane: 'The Yard' O Gauge Model Railway - Filmed at the 2026 RAILEX Model Railway Exhibition in Stoke Mandeville, is the O gauge layout 'The Yard'. Additional discussion on the development and execution of this layout can be...

Re: FEF Project...Many Questions and Photos over time

I keep seeing reference to Scale Hardware not being available any longer. I'm under the impression that they were acquired by one of the model automobile companies that used to be associated with Scale Hardware. As far as I know the line can be found at https://modelmotorcars.com/collections/small-p...

Re: New Pilots for MTH C40-8

Butch, There are two ways to sell one's work when it comes to 3d modeling and printing. Some people sell 3d printed parts produced from their cad. That's the way any number of cottage industry types or bigger brokers like 3dCentral go about it. The alternative is to sell the .stl file that can be pr...

Re: New Pilots for MTH C40-8

I may not get to everything tonight, so I'll start by answering the easy questions first. All of these comments will pertain to resin 3d printing rather than FDM printing. I can speak about FDM printing in general ways, I've done it in the past, but I've have zero firsthand experience with any of th...

Re: New Pilots for MTH C40-8

I can answer some questions tomorrow if Jim doesn't get to them first and discuss the parts and how I created them.

Re: Challenger Tender Water Hatch Dimensions

Glad I could help.

The drawing DVD's apparently do include drawings for both the locomotives and tenders, plus other details. There are sets for both the early and late Challengers, plus the Big Boys. At $40 per disc, I think they are a bargain, and hopefully they will be made available again.

Re: Challenger Tender Water Hatch Dimensions

Butch, I sent you a message through the board. Based on the information I have now, you will need to decide which road number and therefore which class of Challenger you want to model, as there were several classes of centipede tenders and the water hatches vary incrementally among them. There were ...

Re: Challenger Tender Water Hatch Dimensions

Butch, The UP Historical Society has offered DVD's of technical drawings for the Big Boys and Challengers in the Company Store on their website. They appear to be unavailable at the moment while formatting of the content is being updated. I know somebody that has previously purchased the DVD's, and ...

You can also call them on the phone, and talk to a real person, it's not online only. They never shut down the business, just closed the brick and mortar storefront. As far as I know, they still offer all the same things they offered before.

Re: What kit or builder is this?

No need to measure, get out the spectacles. They have plainly different features and a subtly different shape. Pilots are clearly different and location of the streamlined number boards is different. They are similar, but in no way identical. There are also 2 square openings along the side just belo...

Re: The "Woody" D&H Challenger

The threaded rod comment a page or so back reminded me, I believe Bob talked about using brass threaded rod or pins to plug drilled and tapped holes in diecast, which could then be soldered to. I seem to recall reading it on this forum quite some time ago, but I can't find it with a search. Of cours...

Re: DFW Portable Layouts -- Mainline and Traction

I'll have to show this video to my friend Charley. He's a p48 traction modeler over on the east side, who grew up around the corner from, and spent his youth riding and railfanning, the Lake Shore Electric Railway. I'm sure he would be interested in the Ohio Public Service cars, and excited to know ...
