Lionel 1065 set from 1935: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55213771928_fce777431e_b.jpg A York find from a year ago, I dropped it off at East Main for some minor repairs. Now it's back with its cab light rewired, a replacement for a cracked drive-wheel, new brushes after a motor clean/lube. Gave...

Re: The other Strasburg "prize"
That looks pretty sharp as well. What's the roofing made of? Almost looks like papier-mâché.

Re: Weekend Photos -- April 2026
Sorry to hear you're having to take down the layout, Jim; it's never a fun exercise. Still, a 5'x9' is a nice chunk of real estate. That's the size of a ping-pong table, as I recall; many of those found their way to being the basis for layouts during the postwar period. That relay shed looks terrifi...

Sweet, a classic “summer” car. They have one similar at the Baltimore Streetcar Museum. I’ll be interested to see if/how you motorized that.

You gotta love Marx lithography. They had some fairly ingenious folks working in their graphics department.

...looks okay for the tinplate layout. Looks fabulous. I do wonder about the building's right and left sides. Is the light brown area something that the printer did? No, I think the light-colored areas were imperfections in the original scans maybe, perhaps camera flash? Not sure. I could have clea...

HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 (inkjet)...it has proven itself pretty durable and inexpensive to operate (unlike many inkjet printers). The one thing that's a challenge is that the colors can be slightly off (not quite WYSIWYG). I've been a dedicated HP user since I got my first HP11C hand-held calculator so...

Playing around with the printer, MS Paint, and a bit of cardboard/paper, made me a version of the Marx T3-21 Army Training Center: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55191496581_21e4d33721_b.jpg The original came in one of the terrific Marx playsets and featured an open back wall and a lithographed...

Looks like AI-generated images.
I recall the book and a number of different film versions of The Railway Children, one starring Richard Attenborough produced back in 2000. My children enjoyed the movies and the book.

Re: Moraga rebuild
This is coming along terrific. Adding the interior bits gives quite a bit of clarity as to the car’s utility from a layout perspective. It’s going to be quite unique when you finish.
Has me wondering about the era it’s meant to model. My guess would be early 20th century, maybe 1910-1925.

When I first looked at the image, I thought Wayne had Photoshopped/cut her out of the photo for privacy reasons.

Interesting question...I have a loop of O-27 on the layout, I’ll have to give it a try. I use the loop mostly as a buss for a number of accessories...it should work for testing, though. I’ll let you know when I get a minute.

Yeah, that's a lot of stuff...gives me something to aim for, lol. Got the 226E back on the track this week: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55185604439_7955704e84_b.jpg Replaced the smokebox front with a reproduction part made by Trainworx (the original had a broken marker lamp). Re: Weekend Photos - March 2026
The Google machine reports that 2500 rail-workers were killed annually on average during the 1920s (total railroad employment during the 1920s averaged 2.2 million). Certainly a bit more precarious than today (which makes sense). We've already had 2-3 tornado warnings here this year, and it's only t...

I look at that pic and think no wonder rail-workers got killed between cars.
End of March...it's been quiet.
