Re: ABOUT OUR BOTS
I thought that when we started the effort of to try to juice this place up a bit, there was some commitment to improve the "join" process. I'm guessing that hasn't happened. Unfortunately, after six months of effort geared to broadening the subject matter to attract new folks, there seems...

Re: Chemical or ??? for removing solder from small delicate details
Butch, another technique is to hold the part with a haemostat/forcep/surgical clamp, heat the part with a small torch with the flame kept rather round and yellow rather than the full-bore pointed blue. One the solder melts, rap the haemostat of the edge of the workbench and the excess solder will si...

Re: SMR Trains
Butch Actually, it worked out the other way 'round for Henry. The WM stuff, C&O small articulateds, and Alco roadswitchers all sold out nicely. It was when he got convinced to try western stuff (by a famous Espee collector, said Henry) that he had trouble, both the SP 4-10-2 and the Trainmaster....

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction
Good for my widow, not so much for me. When basic layout building materials such as flex-track and plastic buildings on the secondary market become commodities, it means the reason for the existence of the hobby and the health of the scale is under threat. The lack of not only supply but of the supp...

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction
Basics like track, rail joiners, scenery stuff, plastic buildings, all are now lucrative on the secondary market. Nothing new coming from China and the industry put everything there. Short-term profit with no exit strategy, and now its bit them in the arse. They have nothing new to sell us at a pric...

Re: 2 Rail Layout Videos (2 rail only please!)
A 2-year old video from Ryan Express Trains that, inexplicably, was not posted here: Brian Scace's O Scale Shelf Layout Thank you for posting it, Chris. This video is the one that gets credit for prompting me to go through every piece of rolling stock we have, standardise on Kadee or Intermountain ...

Re: Building an Atlas SW9 from Parts
Here are a couple bottles from my stash as examples: https://i.ibb.co/h5rMVL8/IMG-6780.jpg This stuff is intended for flexible polycarbonate R/C car bodies so the paint adheres pretty well, but is flexible. It takes a while to get through a bottle of this stuff so mine is older Pactra I sourced year...

Re: Building an Atlas SW9 from Parts
Look outside the narrow confines of model railroad product and have a look at what the RC car guys are putting on those nylon-esque body shells of theirs. I use their paint for Atlas SW and chain-drive Weaver handrails. It holds well, is flexible enough, and if you don't like the colours you can use...

Re: Soundtraxx Blunami Decoder (new to me)
Atlas then is the first to try marketing an analogue version in O Scale to my knowledge in probably 15 years at least, and I applaud it. I hope it works out for them. Its one of the biggest reasons why I haven't considered any new product in a long time. It isn't clear on their web-blurb if they are...

Re: Soundtraxx Blunami Decoder (new to me)
According to Wikipedia, you're right in my being full of crap about the signal being separate from the available base voltage to be modulated so I'll cheerfully give you that. My complaint remains the same. The issue is there should be no standard for electronic control systems. There should only be...

Nicely done. I very much like it.
A few grabs before paint or do you do those when you glaze it afterward?

Re: Soundtraxx Blunami Decoder (new to me)
The options are many, that is for sure......and we have a lot more choices today than in the past. And, the evolution of all these options has improved reliability. Butch, you are unfailingly kind and the voice of reason. But no, we don't have more choices. If anything we have fewer because of the ...

Re: Soundtraxx Blunami Decoder (new to me)
Just back from an open house that a local club put on. They have and large HO layout plus N, and two three rail layouts, hi rail and post war. Their HO is all DCC on the rails and all the trains seemed to run without issues. Not sure how many feet their mainline is but one member mentioned it can t...
