Re: Minton Cronkhite trains in motion !

Great video and I've never seen it. I had no idea about model trains in the very early 20th century. Thanks for posting David.

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction

WOW DAVID! Thank you! That is very helpful information. I had no idea the transition had gotten that far down the tracks, but very glad to see some young guys pushing and holding everything together. I agree, it is a very aggressive schedule and hopefully the community will help to support it and ma...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Just confirmed with a friend in the Chicago area who runs with Dan and he didn't know anything, so I expect it's just a rumor.

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction

Larry had been in O scale for a long, long time and I think the S scale sojourn was just a diversion into another gauge........I've done it more than once. But, this explains why there are S scale and HO scale items in this current auction and maybe reinforces the notion that this is part of...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Dan did a 10 car Wasatch set for me between 2021-24 and his illness was in the middle of that time which added over a year to the process......it was really touch and go for at least a couple of months and it took him 3-4 months of convalescing before he was able to do any work. But, the cars came o...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

In chatting with him I sadly heard that Dan Pantera had passed I just reread your post and missed the part about Dan. I hadn't heard that and will do some research. Dan came through a life threatening 100+ day hospital stay due to infection from a fairly common procedure, but that was a couple of y...

Re: Painting Classic Passenger Cars

Sounds like a great plan and we look forward to seeing the results (both good and bad). A lot of us here haven't painted and seeing someone else go through the steps would be encouraging.

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction

I'm not sure of all the nuances, but I heard the same rumor and if you click to learn more about a up and coming model you are whisked away to a new website called "Third and Townsend".

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction

Yeah, it seems the only importer active these days is Scott Mann with his 3rd Rail products. He has a 2026 catalog with a lot of imports for 2026 (some in progress now), but alas, nothing I can't live without. But, unlike KOH's and MMW, he doesn't seem to have any problems having models built and im...

Re: Upcoming Stout Auction

Yeah, I'm not a buyer for anything either.......I got enough to last my lifetime. Lots of items I would have liked to own at one time, but that time has past. But, the quality of most models is either new or mint in most cases. Rumor has it this might be the 1st of several auctions of Larry Sokol's ...

Upcoming Stout Auction

Stout has an interesting auction coming up on 1-8-26 with some very nice brass pieces. This is the 1st new in the box OMI 350 Ton coaling tower I've seen in decades and the price reflects it.

Re: Building an Atlas SW9 from Parts

Nice job Jim. The Atlas SW is a smooth runner right out of the box, so I always wanted to upgrade one with more scale details.....I didn't realize they were put together in a fashion that made them difficult to custom paint. I agree on trying to paint the slick plastic handrails that have been used ...

Re: The Museum of Science & Industry 1946-1948 AT&SF PA

I think the history of model trains is just as interesting as the models themselves and even more so. I read what has been posted and it makes me feel melancholy and brings back great memories. I totally understand where you're coming from Erik. Your life is richer for surrounding yourself with the ...

Re: Carey's recent acquisitions

Taking a casual look or not having an interest in model railroading, it's easy to underestimate the talent and skills that went into building a model like this. You really had to be a model railroad fanatic to take it to this level. I've seen many other hand built models and there are many more unkn...

Re: Early Piggyback Project 1953-1957

Nice thread Erik. Because of your truck and trailer modeling I bought some nice models...........still haven't done anything with them.......but I have them. Trucks and trains just seem to go together in that great era of transportation. Unfortunately, trucks took over and trains had to scramble for...
