Mariposa Fire?

Postby bob turner » Thu Jul 20, 2017 1:27 pm

Anybody know how our friends the Jakls and the Viales are doing?

I flew by just west of Bakersfield Monday, and it looked like a pretty serious fire, but now the news calls it a conflagration, and hints that Mariposa is being evacuated.

Bob,

The Jakl's had to evacuate and are staying with their son Ed. Scotts Valley, I believe. Another son, Tom, came up and helped with evacuation. I spoke with Bob yesterday and all they can do is wait and see. It was looking semi-positive for them but the truth is, no way of know what this fire is going to do. I'll attempt to attach a map that showed the status as of yesterday. By the way, their son, Ed, is a contributor to this forum so he may add more as it becomes available.

The Viales moved to Fresno quite some time ago. Fire danger was one of their primary reasons, I believe.

I believe this fire (The Detwiler Fire) has to potential to be one of the worst ever, in California.

This map is the most detailed I've seen, to date. See Page 15.

The Jakl's home is just to the East of Div O.

Hi All,
Jay's map above is as accurate as we know. On Tuesday I was talking with my parents on the phone when it went dead as they lost power. They made it to my place Tuesday night. They are doing as well as to be expected. Today they went to lunch on the Santa Cruz wharf with my brother Tom. Electricity in their area is still out and roads are closed. So until those situations change they can't really go back in. So far it looks like the fire has stayed away from their property.

Good news! My parents were able to return home last night. The electricity has been restored and their property is all OK.

Good to know -- some of the luckier ones!
Just remember: what horses consider play, monkeys consider business, but to Tom it’s all foolery.
