I put it on when I was on the Soldering what am I doing wrong now? topic.
webenda wrote:Anyone use a fume hood while soldering? The fumes from flux drive me nuts, they head straight to my face. Safety goggles keep the fumes out of my eyes, but not my nose. I move my head way over to one side--the fumes follow. It is uncanny, like bar-b-que smoke. I usually give up with head weaving and just hold my breath.

Then I left it on because we were boiling acetone to remove all those lines that appear in most 3D printed items over in the 3D Printing topic.

I guess I can take it off now, doesn't help with the jokes posted here.

Quite probably so. The list of events that I am to blame for is endless.

Murph, are you sure the doctor told you you were "touched," or did he say "teched?"

And by the way, Doc Wayne, are you sure you are not related to Dr. Neil Degrasse Tyson? I posit that because I feel or sense a similarity (in my imagination, having never met you in-person) between him and you: the excellent mind; the amiable, cordial nature; the politic way he teaches; his thoroughness; his ease and enjoyable presence, to name just a few impressions I have gathered, of both of you.

Now, was I serious, there, or being jocular? You know the truth very well. :D Murph

Yes. I was a quart low... And the bill was outrageous! I wouldn't pay it if I were you!...

Feng shui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. I have no idea why Murph asked such a question. We are all in harmony here. It is a model train forum and we all play with model trains. Feng shui achieved.[/quote]

I think I was intending to use a bit of hyperbole and irony, there, for Rufus is certainly a kindred soul, even considering his occasionally out-there avatars (right, Roger?), one whose advice privately has helped me stick around these parts.

Perhaps, I went too far off the charts of irony in my use of that Feng shui remark since he is one of the last persons who needs to check his balance and harmony with these surroundings.

Well, DocWayne, considering the number of times my doctorS went rummaging around inside of me, throughout this just-past October and November, complete with furniture and lighting and tools and Godknowzwhatelse, removing this-n-that and adjusting this-n-that, I surely feel touched enough, these days. Believe me. Fortunately, no clowns were present, though, during any of the myriad procedures. :| Murph

Naw, off the charts and out of the box are part of the fun we are allowed here, thanks to Forum Moderator Bill treating us like adults (even though we fail that title occasionally.)

Now there's a comforting thought. However, I've decided I'll take it all on blind-faith. Though I will check, in future, if their shoe sizes are exaggerated, and maybe for the residue of white makeup here 'n there, huh.

I too greatly admire Dr. Tyson's teaching abilities, thank you for the complement. No not related and I don't have 1% of his knowledge. His knowledge base and understanding of things is truly amazing, except for his ignorant stand on evolution.
Several times I have considered writing him a letter to suggest he stick to astrophysics and stop passing on lies about evolution and religion.
Tyson says the fossil record "proves" evolution. He seems ignorant of the fact every species in the fossil record suddenly appears and just as suddenly disappears without ever evolving.

I apologize for ranting Rufus, mention of Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson pushes one of my buttons.

We human beings are complicated. We can have many admirable qualities and still find ourselves in disagreement on various issues and held in contempt by somebody somewhere.

An example might be abortion and the rights and prerogatives of a woman to protect the sanctity of her own body. I saw a bumper-sticker, way back in the 70's (or was it the 60's ?) that stated: "If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." (Talk about pushing buttons!) Many reasonable voices have expressed carefully and even passionately held viewpoints and beliefs and still found themselves faced with equally passionate and well thought out conclusions on the other side as well.

Another...
...oh, never mind. I'll take your courteous nod to Rufus and stop right here.

Maybe just one more launch....
Possible replies to the above ...

Divine intervention?
Extra-terrestrial intervention?
We missed a few specimens?

For example, take the horse. Available fossil record appears to indicate to some minds that it began small, with a different foot, and approx. the size of a greyhound, had to run for its survival, so ever larger legs and muscles develop over time, thus needing larger lungs and heart = larger chests, increasing height and overall dimensions, etc. Did the horse, as seen today, have to be created in a flash? Was there some hurry or need for drama? Could its creation not have been a gradual process, rather than a sudden zap into existence? Time is so relative. Or is it. So many questions; so little proof?

End of some-nerve.

Few have access to fume hoods; I do but I have never soldered while at work. The following of smoke, e.g. BBQ seems something very real - thoughts on the phenomenon or just coincidence?

Do be careful boiling acetone.
The average train of thought isn’t big enough to carry a full sized opinion on any subject.

I have a good sense of humor I needed it in the military especially overseas.
We worked closely with the odd American base.
One day I was visiting an American fire support base the first thing that was said after introductions "Ay Harry, I heard about your National library having a celebration! Yeh, they added a second book to it" all kinds of jokes I had to put up with from you blokes referring to the size of the population of Australia. Ha Ha very funny.
(They called me Harry in the military it's a short story not worth telling.)

Hi Nev, There is not much I know about Australia except for the typical information one night obtain in school here in the USA. If you were to take photos of things that, in your estimation, best represent what is best about Australia and most typical, what would you select? Have any photos you would care to share, if even of simple personal surroundings and joyful details of your life there?
