I don't check in here often - seems useless. And I don't know what the numbers are, but population is increasing fairly rapidly, if no longer exponentially.

Hondo's numbers seem semi-correct, except maybe for the 1900 years part, and maybe the 9 billion part- not sure we are there yet.

But I agree with Butch. What we need, and what I am not qualified to understand, is an economic system that works for all, and yet does not depend on growth.

No kids or grandkids, and I may not last to see either Trump anointed President for Life or LA run out of water. Burning avgas as fast as I can, given that I have very small aircraft and ancient automobiles, and badly contributing to pollution/warming. Wouldn't be a problem with a billion people, room for tigers and giraffes, and some steam engines. But I suspect that nine billion will be close to a breaking point even if we spread them out as Martin suggests. Anybody want to live in Northern Nevada? They still have water, steam engines, and decent climate if you don't mind 90 degrees in the Summer. And lots of space for expansion.

No need to go to extremes. Most of many states are empty. If we just get decent connectivity wherein folks can work from home easier, that solves a lot of issues very quickly. If I had decent internet connectivity in PA at my house there, I'd be there where cost of living is far less..........although taxes and electricity cost more.

A University of Missouri professor who is leading a study of COVID-19 in wastewater said his lab detected the Delta variant weeks before the first case was reported. The state is currently seeing a surge due to the Delta variant and has just under 50% of its adult population fully vaccinated.

"We detected it in the first wastewater facility on May 10, a week later we saw it in four different wastewater treatment facilities and by the third week it was everywhere," Marc Johnson, study lead, told Fox 2 Now. "It was across the state, all different parts."

Wastewater surveillance has been used to pinpoint potential COVID-19 clusters in colleges, cities and communities. Johnson said the Bond Life Science Center is the only facility in the state testing wastewater samples, according to the report. He told Fox 2 Now that the lab receives around nine gallons of wastewater weekly.

"We get the data and usually within a matter of hours forward that data to the Department of Health and Senior Services and within the next day they upload that information to all the county health departments," Johnson told the news outlet.

He warned that there will likely be more variants to emerge.

NEW YORK — Health officials say the delta variant of the coronavirus continues to surge and accounts for an estimated 83% of U.S. COVID-19 cases.

That’s a dramatic increase from the week of July 3, when the variant accounted for about 50% of genetically sequenced coronavirus cases.

What is overlooked almost completely is that those that get the virus and survive quite frequently are burdened with additional health issues that are apparently not going away and that poses a long-term health issue for the country (and the world).

Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas have some seriously high numbers of cases......and then there are a few others not far behind. Correlates well with low vaccination rates in those same states.
