The world is full of these people and the sad part is they vote and are helping to make policy.

Hardly new or a recent development.

Very true except years ago we didn't have the internet. digital cameras, cell phones, Facebook, you tube where people thrive on showing us how stupid they can be

Absolutely!!!!!!!! It seems stupid has escalated 10 fold since the wonderful new technologies allow them to share their stupidity.

You wouldn’t believe what has to be done in residential elevators to keep kids from killing themselves. Apparently if it’s a 2x6 wall or wider they’ve discovered you can get in between the door and the elevator shaft and watch your friends/siblings ride up and down on the elevator. They have to build and attach a sloped box to the inside of the door that a child could not stand on. At some point a child or adult fell down the shaft or got drug between the elevator and the wall or ended up under the elevator and got crushed to death.

What’s really sad is parental neglect to warn kids about stuff like this. Regardless of intelligence, sometimes curiosity and adventure takes over. I’ve found with my kids, a good stern talk about what could endanger their lives or potentially kill them was often enough. One of the more memorable talks I had with my kids was to NEVER go out on frozen rivers, lakes ponds no matter how safe it may appear. My mom lives on the water and I awoke many nights while living there to helicopters looking for someone that had fallen through the ice. Scary stuff!

Yes. Several years back. I helped a guy setup his booth in Baltimore convention center. I left Bucks county around 3 AM. Arrived inside the convention center about 6 AM. Had some coffee and doughnuts. worked all day. I was finished around 4PM. Ready to leave for the hotel. When someone said " Can you hang this painting right there in the center?" Sure. I grabbed a folding chair opened it up and set it in front of the wall. Stepped on the seat cushion and whamoo. That chair folded up on me knee high. I have no clue what i was thinking. tired and in a hurry to get to the hotel room

Regarding elevator safety: I once did a fire/safety inspection at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst campus. UMass is sometimes known as "ZooMass". The guy showing me around said occasionally they had problems with "elevator surfing" in the high-rise dormitories. This is when a student, usually stoned, gets on the roof of an elevator car, rides it up and down, and jumps from one car to another as the cars pass each other. As expected injuries occurred. The most gruesome was when a "surfing" student failed to notice a structural steel beam in between the car pathways as he jumped. I was told it was quite a mess to clean up.
