The bidding on Carey's Pacific is lively. Hard to watch, so much is happening and still keep rack of it.
Starting Bid (reserve!) was $145, which tells us we'll never know the actual worth, just what two bidders can drive it to from the reserve.
a***0 started out the gate jumping from reserve of 145 to 148. Classic opening.
Next bidder (2***0) jumped it to 150....good counter move!
Murmuring from the assembled crowd.
Will the weather affect the outcome?
Umbrellas are in evidence...but wait!
a***0 is being cautious....move the bid by 2.50, less than his opening gambit, but more than his opponent.
Showing skill here, indicating to his opponent that he thinks he is in charge of this contest.
He knows his opponent has only two items fought for in the last 30 days, for a total of 4 bids.
a***0 is confident his strategy will overcome 2***0 who has shown a lack of sufficient drive in the past to overcome.
Only 4 and a half hours left in this contest....will it go for stupid money, or will it go for stupid money?
Stay tuned for the rousing finale....and watch out for snipers coming in from the rough!

Now that we're fully ensconced in the Back Nine, the battle is on. 2***0 came from behind with a startling bid of five whole dollars! The crowd went wild!

But a***0 snuck in a $2.50 bump forty-five minutes later.
The crowd booed.

Down to an hour twenty. No sign of the snipers in the rough, but officials have a keen eye out for them.
Nickle-dime bids tends to remove suspicion of shills, so officials have relaxed on that front.

Water hazards still exist, and our front runner best stay away from the WC in case the competition passes him up.

We see TV cameras have shown up to televise the finale of this great competition!

Not looking good, folks. The TV camera crews look like they might be getting ready to pack it up. An hour and a half ago a***0 jumped ahead by $2.50, and so far, 2***0 has not risen to the challenge.
30 minutes to go, and officials are spreading out along the rough, keeping a close eye for any movement that may signify snipers.
We'll follow this and interrupt our regularly scheduled evilbait coverage with any breaking news.

Out of 43 watchers, it seems 41 considered the "reserve" too high.'Two just bid away, one said too much, and it was a one-bidder controlled show.
The lack of snipers or at least last-minute bids seems to also indicate price and condition entered into said lack.
Probably nobody gives a sXit either for an old GM or A-N piece.

I have a Mountain (GM) and a ten-wheeler (with a long lead boiler we cannot positively identify), but the only Pacific I have here is a Mantua kit that still needs the valve gear assembled.
Always thought my first in 0 would be a SC K4s, Not yet. Someone will provide one at some point.

One of the mysteries of life, I'll tell ya.
My bucket list is short, but usually I find what I'm looking for.

SC K4s has been on that list for some time. I have a SC NYC Hudson, ATSF Mikado, and a SP Mountain.
Not interested in the P-13 Pacific.

Just funny how a Pacific has escaped me all these years.

Easy. You want one for five bucks, and they typically bring $175.

Or less. It will show up.
I get things I never thought about. Like a Erie FM Trainmaster. Like a 520 electric. Like another 225E, then a 226E. And four wooden boxes of SC freight cars. Or a turntable. Or a 4-foot double tracked truss bridge. Or 6-1/2 feet of Marn-0-Stats. Or a 10 amp PH power supply. Or 400 feet of GarGraves. Or similar amount of TruScale.
It's crazy.
I just wait.

Someday Turner will mail me one.

They definitely show up. I just won this one a couple of weeks back. I paid too much for this one, but it is a center drive version and is mostly there. Missing drive rods on one side but has a good set of wheels lol..... This makes five for me including the one I traded to Daniel in France straight up for an Erector Hudson. Bottom line is I can't resist these things..... lol

I have a few choices to use for it besides making a decent one lol. I have a funky home made G5 style tender behind it... I realized a had quite a few K4's. I've managed to pick up a few Williams brass K4's for similar prices to this SC K4 and the Williams were complete and ran to boot lol. Had to pay $200 for the streamlined #1120 K4 though. PIcked up early MTH premier K4 from 1996 for $100 because the seller thought it was DOA... Not so, runs like a charm. To bad those MTH K4's have too small drivers lol. Have a couple of Lionel Legacy K4's and they are nice too. Got a spare Legacy K4 shell for $20 the other day and when I got it, decided to see how it fit on a spare K4 frame.

Not sure if this link will work or not..
