Everybody's situation is different. I could not and would not begin to consider offering advise on such a decision.

Murph,
If I was as young as you and had the money it would be in my driveway.  8) 8)
I don't mean for you to go get one now. The ones you have are probably like new.

Thanks, Roger, for your input.
The 2018 'Benz GLE is a lease, with approx 4,700mi on it, which is over in 2020. I had been planning to buy it then, because I am very fond of everything about it. What we have done since the 1990's is buy our leased vehicles if we have liked them a lot.

My wife's 2012 E Benz was bought that way . Presently, it has only 3,400 mi on it and is unlikely to get much more of any significance added to that. It was the car at the dealership with me, for its "Schedule B" check-up and servicing. I was waiting the 2 1/2hrs for that to be accomplished . The car is so perfect that with that LOW mileage, I actually received an inquiry from a Service Manager to let him buy it.

So, I have considerable freedom to do anything:
Continue to keep the E.
Let the GLE go after lease expiration date.
Buy the GLE.
Keep them both, as is now the case.
Silver convertible acquisition .

I don't think I would lease again, as I doubt I would outlive one. Plus, I really would like a relative I have already selected and declared in my Will as beneficiary of any car(s) I possess.

I take it you are already decided on Benz, so I saw a nice E63 AMG - might find that suitable if you were inclined to downsize to a single vehicle.

I'm still debating a Panamera, but it's just totally impractical

Leave the benz at the dealer’s. Your feeling of emptiness will not be cured by a car. A car will only give you a quick hit of dopamine.soon to wear off. Find a new friend . Enjoy a weekly lunch with them. Try 7 cups of tea.its a website filled with people that need to talk about their problems in life.
Ps. Ask to test drive that benz for 2 days. Then walk away from it.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

No thought of leaving Benz whatsoever.

I've had a couple 500-series Beemers and liked them very much . Sold them to colleagues.but mostly it's been Benz since 1991 first one, an E sedan. Sold.

Cars are not any sort of answer whatsoever for my being in mourning. Cliche. And total nonsense to me, as well as inappropriate advice/viewpoint to have to read at this date.

I'll not be having two cars sit in the garage, after a certain point.

The convertible just seemed like a fun idea at the moment. Now not so much.

A car is a practical matter for me, sprinkled generously with fun and absolute dependability. My cars often take me here, 800mi round trip , and it is here I receive my dopamine or whatever hit. In fact, I awarded myself two days here, once again, last week, in the super-dependability GLE. I could feel the positive effect of this place while I was present and even during the drive to-and-fro. The effect has remained. Continual interactions with friends, relatives-in-law , and fellow parishioners have helped in the healing.

Unless 1 is for fun and 1 for all practical uses, and that works for you, then I agree. Otherwise, 1 is a waste of resources.

True. Of course.
I would like to leave that E to a beloved young cousin-in-law, so I am very motivated to keep it.

So decision made on that 1 - you have a plan for it - just have to maintain it until such time as you turn it over.

Now the question remains for yourself - what do you need/want? And, I'm back to where I started - can't begin to seriously advise or suggest. Only you really know what you need/want.

Of course, but I thought it might be fun and interesting to hear what you guys thought. And it has been interesting, for me, at least. I don't just keep-my-own-counsel. I often construct it by listening.

Start with a list of what you need/want? And, what you do not need/want.

You might also add why you need/want. Or not.
