Very nice.
What is the history of the models?

You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Really easy to do when photographing. When running, the ammeter alerts me.

Hello all...
William Crook built by Louis Beuhler of Allentown, Pa in 1938 with a pair of matching cars ...operating Stevenson valve gear ...needs closer to original trucks on tender ..currently sits too high. ...right ...Paul Egolf kit built by Percy Pierce , Phila, Pa ..1938....featured in several,MR articles covering his Seton Valley Railway 1941,2. Buildings in background Frank Ellison's Raymondale .
Cheers Carey .....both engines are two rail...just easier to stage the photo on the outside 3rd layout

Looking carefully at the Paul Egolf kit, I can see several bits of detail which remind me of a PRR D16sb. I suspect the original kit may have been intended as such. I like it a lot. Thanks Carey.

Hello all ..
Percy Pierce was big into early aviation ...please see link
http://www.earlyaviators.com/epierce.htm
Paul Egolf and Fred Icken were also aviation fans .... many folks who began building model airplanes took up model trains ... hence the several model airplane companies that later would offer model train kits. Percy's Seton Valley is pictured in several MR articles .. here are two images from 1942 ... the whole set is stunning with attention to detail .. in one of the Percy articles he mentions knowing Paul Egolf and purchasing the kit for the engine. (both lived in the Phila area ) Cheers Carey

This is fascinating information Carey. Makes one think of there own youth and what they were up to. I recall building balsa wood kits of various WW II airplanes. I also ventured into flying one. I recall it being a somewhat generic model, and I had a .049 gas motor on it. Unfortunately there was a lot more to getting one to fly while hanging onto a grip with a pair of lines tethered to the end of one of the wings. It was exciting but also mostly a failure...I went back to those balsa planes and was satisfied to build nice ones...none of which were ever intended to fly.
I've often wonder why early model railroader are often pictured dressed as if their going to church after they finish running their trains. I worn a tie to church and shed it as fast as possible...so it seems odd to see such fashion habits in the hobby room.
Enjoy seeing these slices of the hobby's past...thanks Carey.

Common back then, people dressed "up" for everything.

Thank God for the hippie revolution.
A whole bunch of O Scalers are also pilots. Scratch the surface and you will find a strain of machinery love, and it goes from motorcycles and hot rods right through round engine biplanes, and re-manifests itself with railroads and road graders.
