I am of the opinion that, in current culture, Meryl Streep is at the top of any list of stars and true actresses.
Ingrid Bergman had a similar effect on me, anytime I saw her grace a movie with her acting and presence. Class.

IMHO there can be quite a difference between and actor/actress and a star. Some could be both.
Actor seems to be used today for both male and female. ???

I think you are correct on each point.

That's not limited to just actors and actresses.

Then again, everyone seems to think that their opinion is important, and needs to be heard and appreciated. Too many of them get elected to Congress and the WH.

Very true. I was in public schools from 1941-1952 and college from 1952 -1956.
During that time I don't recall a teacher ever expressing political views in a classroom.

Anyone with a mouth and/or an internet connection does today. Anyway all of the politicians are actors and actresses.

And, last I checked in this country anyone can express their freedom of speech. At that level, we're supposedly still free & equal, although restricting freedom of speech does seem to be on the agenda more these days that ever before.

True. Just trying to show the difference that the years have made. I am sure you and many others probably could tell me how and why.

How? Accessibility to the internet, etc.
Why? Folks want to obscure the truth and spread lies - tell the big lies over and over. BTW, that's applicable to both ends of the political spectrum - no one has any exclusivity on that behavior.

We have had such interesting and vigorous conversation among the first several pages of this thread that I thought I'd try drawing attention to this topic, once again, by inviting that we relate personal experiences with...

Moments from movies seen during my childhood in the 50's that contain scenes and moments I can still recall vividly (I'm not sure why, except that they were things I had never imagined nor seen previously):

The Day the Earth Stood Still (circa 1951) : when the hidden walkway emerges from the side of the ship.
The Thing from Another World (circa 1951) : when the scientists open the greenhouse door from the hallway and the Thing is on the other side and lashed out at them, losing some of his thorns from his knuckles when they quickly closed the door.
The Creature From The Black Lagoon: when the creature watches the girl swim from underneath her, and she is totally unaware he is there.
Gone with The Wind: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a dam."
The Mummy (Boris Karloff): when the Mummy first opens his eyes, moves, and the archeologist screams one short sudden, startled yelp, and is never the same again.
Forbidden Planet (circa 1956) : every single moment of it, but especially when the lion-like creature, invisible except for when they turn on the juice, advances at the ship.
Frankenstein (Boris Karloff) : when the monster meets the little girl by the pond, and she shows him how to toss the daisies in the water..he runs out of them...and...later we see her father carrying her lifeless body into the village square.
This Island Earth (circa 1955) : the head of the creature which was suggested by one of the characters as being the equivalent of flies/insects on Earth (I think I am recalling that detail correctly from the dialogue.) Oh, and its forearms and pincers, too.

There are a zillion others, but I'll bet some of you can instantly recall these that I have mentioned.

Anybody else have some old favorites (don't have to be from that far back, though) ?

Dinosaurs (1960) The scene where the hero uses a power shovel to battle the T. Rex.

True Grit "I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man". "Fill your hand you son of a beech".

For Love of the Game "has anybody been on base?".
You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Yes, somehow those two gold watches became integral to the storyline, it appeared, watching that scene (that's the only part I watched. "4,013,858 views," to date)
I had been searching around for some of the Eurhythmics (I always loved the attitude of that redheaded woman singing) presentations and, somehow, a sidebar presented itself with that remark, which is why I came here with it, after watching the entire 8:43min piece, to see what you guys thought about such a claim.

Oh wait. No. It was during my search of The Animals "The House of the Rising Sun" that I saw the link on the side-list, referencing the "Best Movie Ending Ever." :?

It's my favorite of the Man with No Name trilogy, but there's good stuff in the other movies, too. I like Ennio Morricone's The Ecstasy of Gold:
