Based on my male grandchildren, nope.

Sadly, I agree. However, sitting down with them, and spending time with them, and building something together might fall under the heading of inspirational.

Sadly, most parents won't spend time with their own children and couldn't build their way out of a wet paper bag.

Those are some really cool cars. They make a plus 4 and a plus 8 (up until last year on the +8) and I actually thought about getting one instead of the 62, but at $75-95K there was no way that was happening.

They have been nice cars for a really long time, fifty years, at least. Here's one that sold locally recently in the low-to-mid teens:

A nice example requiring a wake-up and all that entails.

Not sure I'm up to the restoration and I'll be finding parts for that car is a whole lot worse than a 62 vette. Nice MG-TF next to it....thought about one of those too. Had one in college for a few months and it was a ball to drive around on winding roads. But, I needed something warmer for winter daily driving in KCMO.

Here is a link to a Morgan Plus 4 on the Bring-A-Trailer website, which has turned out to be a very educational sales site for higher end collectable cars. Even the lower end cars seem to be higher quality and I've learned a great deal about cars I'd only heard mentioned in conversations.

Ran up behind this guy while I was returning from Lowe's this afternoon:

Sometimes it's tough to discern the real from the replica, but I wasn't going to jump out and rap on the side of the guy's car and see if it was fiberglass. Regardless, beautiful day for a turn in a roadster.

P. S. The "Jeep" up front is definitely a pretender.

Can you quality for historic tags with a replica?

Good question. If you used the floor-pan and other bits from a vintage VW Beetle as the underpinnings of your 356 replica, than maybe...warrants looking into.

Kit cars are becoming real tricky to register in Pa. For years you could use a donor car to register it. Most of the time a donor car was the majority of the kit car. Some states let you do one. If you build a second vehicle then you need a manufactures license. A few states could give a rats arse about it. Those are states that say ' pay your vehicle tax and move on" Not much if any standard from state to state

States are one thing; what about Fed DOT?

All of what i tell you would be second and third hand crap. Many companies make Dot. approved kits. Some kits are made for a vintage racing circuits. They may not have a Dot. approval. Those cars will have an approval from sema or Ihra. or who ever approves racing safety standards. states can have tougher laws then Federal laws. Registration in PA. is all over the board. I had a fantasy about doing a kit with my mustang. With no solid answers from the state or my insurance company i gave up. Ok. the extra 12 grand helped. Our best bet and most recent answers could come from Tramp on how he did his through Maine.

When I imported my Benz many years ago, it still had to meet a list of DOT certifications; the state did not care as long as they got their sales tax.

That might have had to do with the "Gray Market" in imported MB's. I'm not sure if it still exists or not.

Back in the 70's and 80's, pretty sure it had to do with exhaust systems and safety items that were not incorporated in a European version of the same car purchased from a MB dealer here in the USA. The man I worked for back then played with MB's and got stung on one that was a "gray market" MB....he paid a lot of money to have it bought up to US standards, so his steal turned out to be a bad deal.

Part of it was exhaust, some was headlight systems, and some was interior structure in the doors. Nice thing about mine was that I got to keep the nice big real bumpers......
