Re: WAITING FOR THE TRAIN
He simply looks contemplative, to me, and having his eyes cast downward has become a wise custom for many people who ride NYC's subways, given the ever-at-the-ready to strike-out socially damaged mental cases constantly looking predatorially around, ready to take exception to being looked at, even in passing or in one's casual gaze around a subway car or platform. (And if you've ever been there, you know exactly of whom I speak.)

Busy reviewing the messages from the voices in his head.

I have ridden the subways in NY, Philly, DC and quite a few others, like Paris. Some folks are riding them while checking in with the voices in their heads; some listen, some converse, some take notes, some act, some delete......and some are looking for the caller ID.

No doubt. And plenty of other looking around, too, for...…..well...….."connections" ?
P.S. When in Paris during the late 60's, teaching Art and Architecture, I found the subway under Paris to be very pleasant. Maybe, that was because my students and I used them only for very quick jaunts from here-to-there, and didn't stay on them for any extended periods of time. They were enjoyable, to me, but maybe that was because I was mind-blown at the whole experience of simply being there.

Pretty good descriptions, Murph. Just to be straight, the "the man with the trolley friend" is the late Fred Rogers(of Mister Roger's Neighborhood), and "Mr. Functional Illiterate Bully" is the late Idi Amin, the Butcher of Uganda.

I'm curious (and have long been so,) if you will permit, Wayne, what was your procedure for discerning that information?
