Re: Favorite Movies
I'm watching "Big Fish" for the third (or is it the fourth?) time. And I have no idea why. Yet, I do seem to enjoy it.
Any observations would be welcome.

I had never heard of the film, so I cranked it up on Wikipedia and read the plot! Sounded like a 5 star stinker to me!

I suspect it might be a better view than read. There is something to be said for all the between-the-lines messages and atmosphere that make it to the screen by the hands of a good director and good actors. Plus, there is the element of "suspending disbelief" that can become a major factor in enjoyable movie watching.
For example, kindly consider the novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird." It was a novel I enjoyed reading, as a young teenager in college, so much, that I read it in a day. However, the movie interpretation so artfully fleshed it out perfectly for me, with actors like Gregory Peck playing Atticus , that the movie became what I saw in my mind's eye, rather than my own imagination's interpretation as I read sitting on a college campus bench.
Just an observation I would offer .
Thank you for your reply, Rich. I enjoyed reading it.

The willing suspension of disbelief is factor to the enjoyment almost all movies and books. The underlying story line of father/son reconciliation in this movie may not be for everyone.

Very, very true, IMHO . I agree fully.
Furthermore, I would postulate that the appearance of the supposed Siamese twins actually being merely identical twins is key to the entire message and purpose of the film.
Maybe, the film is about a man seeing things differently at different times in his life.

Murph,
The title of the film sort of intrigued me, and not having the immediate opportunity to view it, I took the next best alternative i could think of. From what I read, I doubt I will seek it out. Viewing it might change my mind, but the odds of that happening are not good.

I don't blame ya. I still am not sure of why I like it, let alone, of having watched it more than once.

All that matters is that you do - probably resonates with some positive event, memory, etc. in your life.

Re: Favorite Movies
And now for something completely different!
My wife, her brother, and I have been watching 1970's car chase films - Bullit, The Seven-Ups.
I was shocked to see a PRR GG-1 (in black PC livery) at the 1:35 mark of The Seven Ups! There is also (I think) a silver Amtrak version in the film as well.
How cool!
