IMHO the whole sport scene, at least above the high school level, is obscene.

You mean, a game that involves outright killing? Isn't that what we call war? The difference being, it's result is not just some abstract win or loss, but much more concrete consequences.

Back to Healey's pics, the Detroit specials were copies of the Miller FWD car of the era. They ran at Indianapolis and at the board tracks the last of which was Altoona which burned in 1931.

There is a 1/25 resin kit for that car which shows up on ebay from time to time.

Last year Bill Kovick was racing his Formcar Formula Vee.



The Formcar was the kit car that started the class. I found Bill in the paddock and we talked for a while and found out that we had raced at Nelson's Ledges in the same years and knew a bunch of other racers in common but couldn't remember racing against each other.

Over the winter I dug up some old pictures taken by the track photographer hoping to jog Bill's memory. When I showed him this photo he pointed to the light blue Autodynamics near the back of the outside row and said "that's me".



We both got quiet for a second as we realized that there was a 10 second per lap difference between where he was on the grid and where I was (second car on the inside row). We spent an hour or so over the weekend remeniscing about our misspent youth.

They were common on pre-war Morgan three wheelers. I saw one at a high end car show a few years back. I think they're worth their weight in gold now.

I don't think it's a Morgan motor. Look how the right cylinder captures the push rod tubes. Look at the mag. That's not 2 BTH. mags. It came with a stack of compression plates for the cylinders. Cases are made of EleKtron Magnesium. I think it's from a cooper.

It could have come from an early Cooper. They were early (50s) builders of rear engine formula cars. It might also have come from an early airplane or a water pump.
