This is the first Porsche-designed vehicle, which had been stored in an Austrian garage since 1902

The first car ever designed by its founder, in 1898, was electric. It was rediscovered in a garage a few years ago.

Looks like it might be a bit stiff on the ride; I'm still opting for the Panamera

Interesting. Pricing to be within the same structure as the Panamera.

The Indy car series has been on my mind a lot lately. Watching NASCAR tear around a contrived road-course at Darlington this past weekend brought to mind much of what seems wrong with both American series. I pine for the days of Foyt, Clark, Andretti and Gurney at the Brickyard, or Yarborough, Pearson and Petty on the high-banked tri-ovals in the old run-what-you-brung format. This restrictor-plate era of everyone running the same homogenized cars has stripped all of the technical innovation from the teams and manufacturers. Running three-wide leads to wrecks, rebunches the cars on the restart, and the cycle starts all over again. Hell with it…if I guy wins by ten laps, fine, he was the best that day…so be it. God knows what's going on in Formula 1.

A few days ago Sarge flipped me a couple snaps to ponder. Looking at these pictures one can understand how Hemingway wrote there were only two real sports - bullfighting and automobile racing. One has to believe driving these cars at speeds approaching 100 mph was a far greater challenge than driving today’s flying wedges at 250 mph.

Tommy Milton, a year after he "retired", in Durant's 1927 Indy 500 entry, which he drove after Durant fell ill. He finished sixth.

Milton was an extraordinary driver, first guy to win a pair of 500's, won the American Drivers' Championship in 1921, set the world land speed record at Daytona in 1920, all despite being blind in his right eye and impaired in the left. In 1949, twenty-two years after his retirement, Milton took over as chief steward at Indy. He was a man of enormous courage, but when he fell ill with cancer in 1962, he shot himself rather than run it out.

Teams like the Clark/Chapman Lotus combo was nearly unbeatable for a few years...we just don't see that anymore.

Kurt Busch couldn't carry Graham Hill's shoes (nor would he want to, most likely).

I'd rather put on golf or worse yet, baseball. At least I'd get a good nap out of the deal.

Yesterday I took a trip to a customer’s house in Rehoboth De. On my way I past Dover raceway. It was packed why motor homes. 4 days in advance of a race. I can’t believe the amount of people that fall all over that sport. You can get them same excitement from sitting on an I95 overpass (go fast flip the bird).

Yeah, but attendance is down some 40%, and what's left is primarily geriatric. Why they run in that bowl at Dover is beyond me...it's the only track I've ever been to where you're covered in shredded rubber when you come out.

Attendance and ratings are down in all sports. I saw a billboard for Dover. $50.00 for an adult ticket. Plus you need to pay for parking. Then when it’s over your screwed. There is only one 2 lane road out of town. With all the bff.,lol, scotus, and omg’s nobody has the attention span for a full event. Everything now is a small byline or blurb on a tv crawl. 10 seconds is all people want. Then move on. What was I saying it’s been so long I forgot.

Maybe.......maybe not college football in some conferences where 100k show up every weekend there's a home game

Fanny’s in seats are down. Down so far many universities are pondering booze sale to bring up ticket sales. Crowds stay out in the parking lots. On that note look at what happened in happy valley last weekend. A state police helicopter tried to disburse a crowd with it’s rotor wind. As the helicopter lowered to 20 over a crowd. Tents and coolers went a flying. The FAA is not real happy about this.

Still had a 100k in the seats there and the rest of the major schools. The tickets are sold... They just want to make more money; greed is what is driving the booze thing at schools where there are drinking problems -- yup, going that direction is a great idea......

Beaver stadium is the 3rd largest stadium in the world. I was looking around for ticket pricing. Student/guest/and off the street joe. It’s so about the greed. $35 for a student ticket x 110,883 for a game against Ohio state. 35 is for the cheap seat in a student section. As a whole college attendance is down unless your nationally ranked.
