Well, that's the advertised list price. They quoted me $3750 delivered, for the TKO-500 transmission, installation kit for a C-1 and the fake C1 shifter that looks just like the factory shifter, except the "T" bar for reverse is not functional. Just sold most of my nicer brass locos, so I'm lining up the $$$ to go in this car. I've built up a nest egg from buying and selling brass models the past 3+ decades and I never spend house money for my hobbies. I'm keeping all my works in progress locos and models as well as some other trains, I'd just rather look at and drive the 62, than look at a bunch of models sitting static in a display case and doing nothing. Also, I'd rather take the devaluation hit on this car than on my brass locos.

Lots of money for the 5spd for sure, but having to change the 4:11 out for 3:36 gears and rebuilding the M-21, will be several thousand at least And if I have to change out the stage 4 carrier inside the present rear end, for a stage 3 carrier to use the lower gear set, more money.

The positives of the TKO and OD just far out weight keeping a 4spd in my car. Look at the links Hondo posted. I've never heard anyone say they wanted to go back to a 4spd after installing the TKO-500 or TKO-600.

Sure am glad this the Car Thread or I'd be boring the h*ll out of a lot of modelers.

You scare me sometimes Hondo. It's like we came out of the same egg.

Sad part about most of those beautiful cars for sale, more than half and maybe even 75% are lies. Something always wrong that the seller doesn't disclose and if you don't have the experience to catch it (I didn't--but could now) you get screwed. I look at all the cars for sale on the internet at least once a week, to make sure what I'm doing isn't totally stupid. The values of these cars are up and down just like the stock market and if you stay current with what is out there you can see a few new listings that are real buys, but they don't last long.

Pretty much like anything else ala 20-20 hindsight. Unless you have someone with experience on your side or have dabbled in it a while, knowledge is always gained the hard way, and that can be expensive. Makes me almost glad I can't afford to be looking.  The way they are Idiotizing NEW vehicles, I don't see anything out there that I find remotely interesting. Sort of a paradox when you can't afford a new vehicle, and you can't afford an old one!

I was going to ask, since you posted that photo which included her with that car, what was at the core of her notoriety/fame, but, upon reflection, thought better of asking, not wanting to commit serious thread-drift offense. So forget I asked, if you wish. :D

Check-out the myriad vintages and makes of cars in this photo I took out a window of Cox's store, on Fifth Avenue, McKeesport, PA, back in the 50's. Cool, right? I can make-out a Buick (1955?) and what I think is a Hudson. What amazes me, finding this photo in my older files, is that there were so many old make and model cars in the streets when I was just a kid during the 50's. I don't recall ever noticing that detail as I marauded around.

Brice was an actress during the first half of the twentieth century. She got her start as a Ziegfeld girl, then had an independent career as a theater, radio and film actress. My grandfather recalled listening to her Baby Snooks radio program, which I suspect, is what she was best remembered for. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage while in her fifties or early sixties.

In popular culture she is frequently confused with Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous stripper, which may be the product of the biographical movies made of their lives. Streisand portrayed Brice in Funny Girl, Natalie Wood portrayed Lee in Gypsy.

Duesenberg becomes most expensive American car ever sold!
https://www.yahoo.com/news/actor-gary-c ... 58034.html

A 1935 Duesenberg SSJ, widely accepted as one of the greatest cars ever made, has sold for $22m, making it not just the most expensive American car sold at auction but also the most expensive pre-war car ever sold.

The car is one of only two Duesenberg SSJs ever made, and was built on a specially shortened 125in wheelbase. Of the two cars, this one (chassis J-563) went to legendary actor Gary Cooper and the other (chassis J-567) went to fellow Hollywood superstar Clark Gable.

'Many vehicles are billed as ‘speedsters’ or ‘racers,’ but the Duesenberg SSJ really was,' says Miles Collier. 'Peaking at 140mph in 1935, it was simply an unbeatable performer, matched by unbeatable style.'

The Duesenberg was so loved and considered so beautiful, it was the origin of saying something - anything - was a "doosey." For example, That's a doosey of a rearend you have there, honey.

or.....His wife is a doozy. (also correct as a spelling.)

We had a doosey of a time at that party.

...or...
We had a doozie of a rainstorm last night. (informal spelling)

An dat's from the book called "Some Old Teachers Know Stuff, too." Yup. Yupper.
