One of the nicer looking Challengers out there!

If you want one of these, it's a good buy. I just have no idea what the market is like for WM models. These were remarkable models in all respects. I only wish Henry had chosen more Western roads to produce and Union Pacific specifically. I think he would have been much more successful. A fatal decision I'm afraid.

A year ago I purchased a C&LS SP 5000. I've been a UP modeler for the last 4 decades and never purchased any other road until the Key AC-12 was announced and this SP 5000 was offered to me. I sold other UP locos so I could buy these and I'm not sorry. I'd rather have fewer, but better models and these SP models are truly remarkable.

The buy-it-now price, with shipping, is 70% of the annual Roth IRA contribution limit, so the question is: future retirement or train now?

Good thing I'm not a WM modeler. :D

Cheap at 1/2 the price.
I expect nothing and I’m still let down.

Agreed! At $1700, it would be a real buy!

That puts it way out of my interest - and I bet Jay's as well. I think you can get a painted production model for that price! With full gearbox!

Suspect you have gotten your threads confused, as this IS a painted production model, and it has been relisted yet again for a lower price:

Eventually we will get a very real data point on actual value.

Value might be affected by the recent auction of Henry's remaining stock. I saw what looked like a couple of these engines being sold. It's a lot of model for the money.

Right. I was thinking Bultmann 4-10-2.

That may be part of it, and it may also be that the numbers of people willing to pay for these continues to decrease.....
