O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

Really? You're quoting from English spoken in 1611?
I grew up with an "old English" Catholic bible to read--I like the language. If you would prefer, here it is in other languages.
--Jeremiah 10:23 Hebrew text. Note the second word (from the right) is, "יְהוָ֔ה" --"Yahweh" or "Jehovah" depending on the vowels chosen. The King James version (as well as all Catholic versions) replace God's name with a title, "Lord."
Here it is in modern USA style English:
23 I well know, O Jehovah, that man’s way does not belong to him.
It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
--Jeremiah 10:23 New World Translation (2013 edition)
It all means the same thing, Mankind is doomed to stumble through life making the same mistakes generation after generation. The Bible offers insight into the source of wisdom, but that is for another day, should the subject come up.

Chickens would take advantage of the situation, through off their chains, revolt, and take over the world
Seriously, total implosion and a reversion to medieval conditions after a loss of about 90+% of the population residing in cities, etc. Sort of like a zombie apocalypse.....
As the literacy rate declines, you’ll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.

That's also been "translated" and edited along the way.....

Not, if it's a straight KJV. Wayne usually quotes a modern KJ revision. I don't even feel comfortable with those, since the version I read was the New English Bible. (This was before the REB of 1989.)

Point being that there have been a host of translations and editing over time - one might want to put their "faith" into one version over another,

I like Rufus' comic version better. John Kenneth Galbraith spoke of the limits of collective memory, especially regarding economics.

Why would anyone put their faith in something they're likely to misinterpret, on account of language differences they don't understand? How many times have I heard Christians say that God would not let them be deceived? If you don't practice due diligence, at least with regard to properly understanding God's word, I don't see why he wouldn't allow you to be deceived.

Probably falls under that other umbrells described as "free will".

Perhaps due to Mankind's penchant for collective hubris and excessive self interest.

Re: Seen in Print
Oh fer heavenssake, don't we leave anything alone! We are always sticking our fingers in somewhere, saying to ourselves, "How's this work?"
or "What's in here?"
Yikes.
Of course, when one considers the Far East, we will, literally, eat anything and everything that ever walked, crawled, flew, slithered, squirmed, hid, ran, swam, oozed, flocked, hopped, waddled, swarmed, or groped itself anywhere. And isn't there a group in Africa that eats dirt? (I'm pretty sure I saw that on some educational channel, years ago.) And we will eat every individual part, too. Every one of them. Need I list them? Nope.
