If the kids answered, "Hamburger," it would not be wrong but most hamburger comes from steers.

Steers gain weight a lot faster than cows and are therefore more cost-effective for meat production. But a lot of older cows are ground into hamburger when they reach the end of their usefulness... In feedlots you will see both steers and cows.
