From the front of the mill (left to right):

• Pouring track
• Charging box track (at rear of mill)
• Charging machine (wide) track (also at rear of mill)
• Run-around track (at ground level)
• Hot metal transfer track (directly above it and charging floor). I don't have enough real estate to up to this level and keep the run-around.

The three spurs to the right are for the blast furnace.

Updated 11/17/2017:

I've made some progress, although it's not particularly visible.

• Earlier in the week, I traveled to Central PA and picked up the bridge approach sections and the two (final) bridge abutments.
• I also retrieved the switches for the Staging Area track.
• I have also been wrestling with the design of the Open Hearth building. Design aspects in play:
  • Number and placement of large columns.
  • Number and placement of small columns.
  • Kind and number of Plastruct components required for the above as well as sources and prices (this building could get very pricey!).

Updated 11/24/2017:

• Reviewed my photos of the Open Hearth mill and did some more focused calculations. I have now determined the correct proportions for the structure.
• Got the PowerHouse 135's from Chris (thank you!).
• Received some Plastruct that I will use to build a prototype truss & jig.

Updated 11/30/2017:

• Had my trigger finger surgery this morning - recovery in progress.
• Over the past 6 days, in between Thanksgiving and kid visits, I determined the correct dimensions of ladles and bridge cranes for the Open Hearth. That led to yet another recalculation of building height and proportion values. The Charging side of the Open Hearth is elevated; fitting the crane's height and the ladle size into the smaller bay didn't work as planned. As a result, the height of building needed to be increased. Even with more height, it turned out that the plan to put the Run-Around Track through the Open Hearth was unworkable. I have re-routed the Run-Around Track to outside the building (part of the Blast Furnace complex).

Thanks Healey! Yeah, I'm hoping to get that done soon - I feel like it's way over due. However impatient I am (and I am very impatient) in looking back over 2017, I actually have gotten a lot done:

• Tore down Panhandle 1.0
• Moved (what a lot of grief, work, and annoyance tied up in that 1 word)
• Planned, tweaked, finalized track plan for Panhandle 2.0. (I hope I'm done there, but...)
• Specified and acquired lighting for workshop & train room
• Planned, organized, and established workshop
• Acquired professional quality paint booth
• Put up about 1/2 of the train shelving in the Staging Area of the layout
• Acquired Open Hearth plans and began planning O-Scale version (in progress)
• Acquired additional piers and bridge approach spans
• Scouted backdrop locations; hired and accompanied backdrop photographer on photo shoot. Backdrop processing is in progress.

I just finished this list and frankly, I'm astonished.

Hey, I'm not knocking you mate! That is a mountain of stuff done, least of which was the actual move (next time I move it will be in a box). Just eager to see some saw dust thrown around...benchwork was always my favorite part.

I know you weren't. Absolutely. No worries. As I told the person at the builder's design center for this house, I don't care about re-sale value - they're carrying me out of this house feet first.

I just started thinking about what happened this year and was flat out shocked. To me (from inside the bubble), it feels like I'm not moving at all.

Yeah, after I get some of the domestic and retirement items out of the way, my plan is to get after the benchwork. I want to see some sawdust fly, too!

Thanks, but I'm still there with an Emeritus position while also the Editor in Chief of a scientific journal publication, and I'll probably be forming my own LLC consulting company in a few weeks, so retirement is a relative condition.
