Punishment for crimes.
I realize that The Constitution of the USA forbids "cruel and unusual punishment." But if the crime is "cruel and unusual punishment," in-the-extreme, on the victim, what suffices as punishment for the criminal? (I've been watching too much TV: "Criminal Minds"; Law and Order"; "NCIS.")
Take one crime, for example. Rape. Particularly rape of children. Or kidnapping and torture, for years, held as captives, of women.
Is imprisonment sufficient punishment for such a horrible offense against all humanity, and in particular, a child?
Some convicted felons seem like they are going to a homecoming or class reunion or an alumni meeting when they get sentenced and incarcerated.
Does prison rehabilitate? Hardly. Was it supposed to? What does imprisonment do? Is it a deterrent? Certainly, it keeps further infection away from the populous, at least for a time, but what happens if & when they get released?
Do you think the threat of castration (chemical or surgical,) written into the law, would act as a deterrent, more so than simple imprisonment?

My wife, daughter and any woman I've heard discuss this issue, agree with you 100%. I have no issue with doing it to them either.
But, they (wife, daughter, etc., etc.) say rape is really a crime of control and not sexual, but I think being neutered would certainly solve most of that problem.

I'm not so sure of that. Are you certain perps wouldn't at least be discouraged and caused to think twice by the threat? I'd imagine there are plenty of men who would be very reluctant to lose them.
And if the penis were included in the removal surgery (as I heard suggested recently in a conversation on the topic), would that add to the reluctance to commit such a crime ?

Well, then it becomes a violent crime (not good), but not rape. Can't have rape without penetration (so I've been told) and can't penetrate with a limp noodle. 
It sorta removes the sexual intent, although it can still be just as violent.
