The Singapore reference was internal thread drift Martin, that Chinese company may be building product in SC, but it won't be Delta/Rockwell product. They killed the Delta/Rockwell line in favor of their own product, and rather specifically won't/don't do parts support. The only reasonable explanation for their corporate policy was to remove the competition in favor of their own product, at least that's how I see it, perhaps somewhat parochially.

Ah.....

I guess I read it to be that they were moving all of the production tooling from B&D and not their own product line - I don't know that the move has taken place or not, but I sort of thought that being in SC might be somewhat better than in Taiwan just on basic principle?

In any case, I'm not in the market for tools of any kind from anywhere having several generations of stuff now, some of which I can barely use, some of which I'll probably never use, and some of which just look nice on the wall in my shop. But, if someone were to give me a good large drill press, I could consider the possibility of maybe becoming sort of tempted to think about it, or not.

How large a drill press are you talking about?

Think my old and venerable yet tired one is a King-Seely for Sears, Roebuck and Co. - seems to be a 1/2" chuck on a full upright floor stand.

I've just never bothered to look for an upgrade and since I rarely use it, have not increased my efforts along that front,

I may have to look around someday.....

Powermatic makes some really great tools, but be prepared to pay. They're just JET saws with a different color and more refinements, for about double the price of JET.

And though my radial arm saw is tucked in a corner that would take me two hours of movin' stuff to access it, I'd never give it up. Half lapping 6" x 6" pressure treated at a 30 or 45 degree angle with the Dado blade; you can't do that on siding compound easily.

Nor would I and I also wouldn't pick it up and put it on a radial arm saw table either. A Makita skill saw with the depth set, multiple kerfs and and a chisel will make quick work of 1/2 lap joints....,or at least that would be my preferred method. I built my wife a 12x12 goat barn last year and it worked like a champ.

Most of us have a lot f tools we don't need IMHO.We buy a tool that we need, use it, misplace it, buy another one , find the first one and never
use either one again but keep them because we might need them. They also look good on the wall. :D :D :D

I suspect that does not include a radial arm saw!

I have quite a few that I will never use; mainly 2 generations back hand tools that I never use like molding plans and compound wood planes for making tongue and groove, lap joints, etc. I've tried to sell some off as some are worth a good bit, but after dealing with tool collectors I've found that they make toy train collectors look totally rational and sane. I'm guessing that those will just stay in the bottom of my tool chest until my children have to figure out what to do with them.

We buy a tool that we need, use it, misplace it, buy another one , find the first one and never use either one again but keep them because we might need them.

I buy very few tools; 3+ generations of them on hand. Rare I can't find something and generally it's because my son "borrowed" it. I do need some new Forstner bits and a new rack for drill bits #60 and larger....

They also look good on the wall.

Got 2 walls in my shop with stuff that I use and stuff that I'll never use handing on the peg board. Silly thing is every now and again I do end up using an older tool like a spoke shave. The left-handed broad axe is not coming down!

Have you got the right-handed one on order?

No. I wasn't being facetious; they come left or right handed.

I learned how to use the left-handed one as it was my grandfather's and he was doing the teaching. While I'm somewhat ambidextrous, I'm also not going out squaring up logs with one of these any time soon.

Well, I did manage to sell my miter saw.

So now, it's time to pull the trigger on a new DeWalt. Still looking at models trying to decide exactly which one I need.

After much internal debate, I went with the 12" double bevel DeWalt compound miter saw. I had a 10% coupon and used it for the saw and for a 100 tooth blade.

Plan is to resume pegboard installation early next week.

Updated 7/20/2017:

We've been in a logjam for awhile here regarding lighting the train room and workshop. The components have been chosen. A parts list is being generated. I have procured a sample 5000K light bulb for evaluation, with a 4100K bulb on its way. However, the first choice electrician is incredibly backed-up with work; I'm looking at a 3 month delay with no promise of an actual installation date. Therefore, I have to go another way. I am looking at another electrician that might be able to do the installation quickly (as within a month).

I should know more by next week.

BTW, additional pegboard installation has been delayed by more house-related work. Hope to get to that today or tomorrow.
