What's New on the PRR Panhandle 2.0?
Re: What's New on the PRR Panhandle 2.0?
A21's or A23's. Not cheap ($20) but they do exist. Hopefully I can find one at HD or Lowes without involving Amazon the way I needed to for 15 watt night lights.

All this lighting talk has sent me to Lowes today to see what LED's are available for mini-floods. Picked up a Sylvania Ultra High Output 50W LED...hoping this brightens up the far end of the layout.

Lowes site down. Home Depot has 50/100/150W LED's. Above 150W, you're stuck with HID bulbs.

150 fine in bright white, "A" style, no 3way, no "dimmable", standard Edison screw in base.

Re: What's New on the PRR Panhandle 2.0?
Lowes only goes to 120W. Home Depot's 150W's are all three-way, or dimmable. Are you sure you can't adapt, or change out, your garage light fixture? Two 75W or 100W bulbs are a lot easier to find, than anything over 100W. At least, in LED.

Not real high on the list of things I'd like to do. I may just go with the 120. The twin 75's in the door opener are way brighter than the exisiting 150 watt CFL. The CFL is fine in the summer but when it's winter and it's in the single digits outside, the garage drops just below freezing and the the CFL is almost useless.
Lohas makes a 150 watt equivalent (I got the 15 watt night lights from them), BUT they are only in 4 packs. I did see this:
https://www.amazon.com/OUYIDE-Spiral-Equivalent-1760LM-Daylight/dp/B01DBRET3M/ref=pd_sim_60_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01DBRET3M&pd_rd_r=HP514A0AW1PMPM12JGE9&pd_rd_w=UiXuR&pd_rd_wg=ZpVWR&psc=1&refRID=HP514A0AW1PMPM12JGE9
And they have a 250 watt version as well.

Thanks! I'll have to look there - never can find stuff in the local HD.

Savannah has a Lowes and a Home Depot next to each other. Lowes people have always been helpful. Not so at HD.
My Kentucky son-in-law says in his area it is just the opposite. I had a problem with power tools, drills, etc., because
HD always claimed what I bought last year was no longer in stock or being made. Did not have this problem at Lowes.

Re: What's New on the PRR Panhandle 2.0?
I've seen huge differences in the way the local HD's are run, not so much with Lowes. There is one HD that is so badly laid out/staffed that I usually forget it exists even though it's probably the closest one. We have one Menards which is nothing like the HD/Lowes and that's in both a good and bad way.
Sort of like the WallMart of home improvement. If they stock it, AND you can find it, great. Otherwise, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I've learned that if you go on-line to a specific Lowe store and locate the item at that store that the listed location in that store (aisle # and bin location) and number in stock tends to be pretty accurate.
Not had as good a luck with HD - high variability in store to store inventory - "we don't carry that in this store...you need to got to...."

That one Home Depot is a) huge, b) everything is *backwards, and c) even the staff don't seem to know where stuff is located!
I went in there to get gardener's gloves. EZPZ at Lowes or even most Home Depots. I wandered around what I thought was the home/garden area and all I saw were Neoprene and heavy leather (welders/wood cutters).
The "garden gloves" were outside in a "cabinet" facing away from the register! It took about 10 minutes to get an "associate" to clue me in on the secret glove cabinet. Most HD's have an associate asking if you need help about once a minute.

Jump on it. I must say, it looks more like a CFL, than a LED corn light bulb. And, it's priced closer to one, too. Amazon sure has a large variety of the LED corn light bulbs, but they're typically much more expensive.

From my experience, HD and Lowes are total crap shoots. You never know what you're going to get. In general (your mileage may vary):
I am not a fan of the big box stores. Unfortunately, they tend to dominate areas. I am trying to find the local hardware stores that deliver product and service.

- At Home Depot you either get completely ignored or repeatedly bombarded by "associates". Many "associates" were asking "Do you want fries with that?" last week.
- As mentioned previously, at Home Depot you never know if something is actually in stock until you visit the store.
- Home Depot carries a lot of kindling masquerading as lumber. Useless.
- Lowe's home delivery of appliances is somewhat haphazard. When you place an order on-line, the store is supposed to call you back to confirm / schedule a delivery. That only happened 50% of the time. And if the truck isn't carrying the auxiliary items you might need for a routine installation, you're SOL. The delivery crew doesn't seem to take responsibility for getting needed items (like a refrigerator compression fitting) onto any truck.
- The Lowes "Pro-desk" isn't. Special orders and deliveries need to be bird-dogged by you; nothing is "fire and forget".

Actually, I was called to confirm delivery by Lowes and then called by the delivery man when he could not find the address....on the mailbox out by the road where I gave them directions on-line how to find it.......and so they took it back......and I called and it was rescheduled for 3 days later. And, after verbally explaining it was going to the farmhouse on the left with the Amish buggies at it...successful delivery!
I am trying to find the local hardware store..............
Good luck with that! When I last drove through Greencastle, the local hardware store and lumberyard that had been there forever at the one end of town was a huge vacant lot.

It's always good to have hope
We've got a few left, getting to be far and few between. Stadium in Ann Arbor, Northside in Wayne. It was actually a Lowes associate that told me about Northside because what I was looking for Lowe's doesn't carry. She said "Try Northside on Wayne road just north of Michigan Avenue". Good call! They had the "parts"!
