The 17/64 AC-4:

Try not to be too critical of the tender trucks. I do have more or less correct 17/64 Commonwealth trucks ready, but I thought a little novelty was in order.

Now to the only 100% genuine Lobaugh AC-8 I have ever seen, built by Harold Peters, and sold to me by Peter (I'll think of his last name in a minute) for a lot of bucks.

And finally, my #3 scratchbuilt, and maybe my masterpiece (note the brake beams) is my 17/64" scale AC-8, with constant lighting in headlights and class lamps, and tons of room for batteries, RC stuff, and Tsunami sound. I will get around to all of that.

Frames are modified Lobaugh Challenger, cylinders are hogged from solid brass, boiler is a combination of brass and steel, with lots of corrosion preventive inside, and tender trucks are from my father's foundry in Tucson ca. 1987.

Thanks for posting these photos Bob. When I first discovered scale models trains verses my American Flyer/Lionel equipment, I was immediately attracted to those Western Cab Forwards.
They were odd and impressive all at the same time, and I wanted one in the worst way well prior to learning they didn't belong on the small layout I was eagerly involved in building.
A trip to a real hobby shop in Hartford, CT in the mid 1960's gave me my first in person look at one, and even in HO it was a serious piece of equipment.
Now in O scale some 50 plus years later I'm weighed down with all the combined knowledge of what fits and who ran what type locomotives and again the Cab Forwards do not belong on my rails.
Nevertheless there is still the visual delight that these huge oddities of the Southern Pacific still brings, and your fine craftsmanship keeps alive.

That's a whole lotta engine(s) you got there Bob, excellent work!!!

I like the airiness of them between the boiler and drivers, reminds me of the SAL Class D2 and D3 2-10-0 Decapods.

On the space - almost all steam had air between the bottom of the boiler belly and the tops of the leaf springs or drivers. Lionel got folks to think that the main frame went up inside the boiler.

I checked - the Lobaugh AC-6 has an Adams tender. The All Nation GS-1 right next to it has a Lobaugh tender. I guess I should swap. And that space between firebox and pilot beam is now filled with a motor cradle - looks a lot like an oil ashpan. And it is gloss black, with custom decals. Guess another photo is in order.

Also I "sharpened up" all my Lobaugh photos. I may bore you with them next week. Some of the photos were fuzzy and lackluster - some were not "on the level". My new photo editor fixed all that. What fun.

Well, surprise. Our search engine will not look for either cab or forward, no matter what. Too common, it says. Ditto AC-8. I know I have a thread dedicated to these things.

I think those threads are kaput! I did an advanced search for you as topic author, and popped 55, none of which appeared to be what you are looking for.

For future reference, if you have a topic you think you might want to refer back to (for example, one with a lot of pics) you might consider bookmarking it in your OWN browser, and putting everything of that ilk in a folder. You should then be able to find stuff, unless the forum is purged again.

The new pics are definitely superior! As for modeling errors, I can't tell one type cab forward from another, as I don't venture west of the mighty Mississip, either modeling wise or in real life.
