MTV. REAL WORLD. May have been the first. It started in 1992.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Possibly and sadly so.
Just remember: what horses consider play, monkeys consider business, but to Tom it’s all foolery.

I tried on several occasions (much to my shame) to watch Survivor but could not get five minutes into it each time. The whole thing was just too, well, grubby.

That, too.

Sleazy and contrived, on television, who'da thunk it!

I recommended it ("Enigma") to my wife, and yesterday, sitting at the same spot in our home, she read it cover-to-cover, literally, in one sitting, from 4:30-10:30pm. She loved it and , like me, was sorry when it was finished.
Murph, Glad the wife enjoyed the book. I try not to recommend inferior media.

Ya know who I hate? Anybody that's just plain silly. Hated Lucy, Steve Martin, Jim Carey, and more than a few others. I have a fast trigger finger on the remote, and if I even see their faces, they're gone! I never once thought any of them were funny. Can't stand them.
If you agree with the Progressives, it's freedom of speech. If you disagree, it's hate speech. There are no alternatives.

I have to say I agree with you fully, Mitch. My mother , when I was a kid, thought Lucy was a poser and a fool. She used to say, "Let me know when something funny happens." It never did.
Unfortunately , somehow , some way, somewhere, I picked up Carey's " all righty then."
Martin, I was indifferent to, though his "wild n crazy guys" moment did give me a smile; perhaps, because I knew some guys just like that in my hometown near Pittsburgh .
To me, the silliest jackass of all was Red Skelton. Even as a kid, I couldn't stand him (esp. Clem Kadidlahopper) . You could just tell that he thought he was adorable, which I found nauseating, even as a kid.
And I thought Carol Burnette thought she was funny, but not I particularly, although I did get a kick out of how the Eunice character would glare with disdain at her mom.
Jonathan Winters I loved and hung on his every utterance .
What was your view of Robin Williams?
Lewis Black?

"The World According to Garp" and "What Dreams May Come" I thought to be towards the exceptional side but in contrast to most other viewers
I did not think Robin Williams was very funny.

An inordinate number of successful people appear so to those that are not, and some actually are.....
