I began the custom of reading it a little bit each morning or afternoon when the sun was its brightest on our settee in the living room. The whole experience became so enjoyable, I miss it now that the novel has been completed. :(

You might enjoy "Enigma" by the same author. Been long enough since I read it that I don't remember any details, other than it was about the German WWII code, but it was an decent read.

I think I saw the movie on TV. But thanks.

I recommended it to my wife, and yesterday, sitting at the same spot in our home, she read it cover-to-cover, literally, in one sitting, from 4:30-10:30pm. She loved it and , like me, was sorry when it was finished.

Such praise from you for a show will have me taking a serious look at it next time I catch that it's on.

Playing presently (01:00 04FEB17) in LooperLand (MI).
Worth the watch!
Lots of pix & history of 19th century street railways.

Short synopsis:
Frank Sprague invented a self regulating motor (constant speed under varying loads,
(1st 'Oddessy' motor??))still used today.

He & his motor was used for several for several street RYs in VA & elsewhere,
as well as for the Boston subway.

Sprague worked for Edison for a while, designed his motor in his spare/off time,
quit to prevent Edison from claiming credit/Patent on his motor.

1St 45 min. of the program is history, a bio of Sprague, & the reasons/necessity for a subway in Boston.

1st demo of his motor was on a flatcar for J. Gould.
(Wonder if this was where JLC got his idea for a motorized gondola{??}).
Sparks scared Gould away from financing Sprague.

An above-ground electric Ry was planned & built to eliminate congestion in downtown Boston before the subway,
but a wheel spark near a leaking gas line sent several trolleys skyward, (as well as a few patrons/bystanders,
...hense the subway.

250K people rode the Boston subway the first day, 50 million the first year.

Some consider Sprague's motor as an equal to Ford's car & the Wright Bros. airplane.

Peace,

I haven't watched TV in over 7 years. I watch movies on the computer and spend most of the time on the internet. I am hard of hearing so I use earphones plugged into the computer. Tons of stuff on YouTube to enjoy including some of the latest movies that have been uploaded. There are a lot of clips from TV series and movies featuring the best scenes. Ran across this one from a TV series called "Banshee" Did any of you watch that one. ?? Looks like it might have been a violent program.

This clip is with Hood played by Antony Starr and the Albino played by JOSEPH GATT. Gatt has played in many bad a$$ movies. This clip is wild.

Just what I do not want to see. Along with improbable car chases and crashes, fights with people making very unlikely jumps, running up walls, etc.

Michael Pitt in "Funny Games," defecated itself on my TV screen a couple nights ago. If you've seen this pile, what were some of the things you'd like to have seen happen to the Pitt character by the end of the movie?

There have been so many terrible TV shows over the years, that I couldn't begin to think of them all. There have also been many that I never saw at all to even form any type of opinion. I'm sure a lot of half decent stuff got hammered pretty quickly. That said, the overall champion all time piece of feces would STILL have to be SURVIVOR.

Back in the 80s there were two series that ran on PBS that were worthy of watching.

The first was Connections hosted by James Burke which traced the history of the technology that makes up the modern world.

The second was The Day The Universe Changed by James Burke which traced the history of how scientific discoveries changed our perception of the universe.

There were also some commercials for things like the chimney and the horse collar which were humorous but I don't remember what series they appeared in.

My absolute favorites are the nature programs on PBS TV.
I am interested in politics, have right wing political talk radio on all day and often into the evening. PBS TV has a program called Frontline, extremely left wing biased and our tax money is paying for this crap. When Bush was in they had program after program. They had a love fest program for Clinton. While Obama was in almost no programs.

Sadly, I suspect that a lot of what might have been rather good stuff was missed, not watched, not even promoted as being telecast, etc. and gone before we ever even noticed it might have been...

That said, the overall champion all time piece of feces would STILL have to be SURVIVOR.

An enormous turd that made gobs of money, effectively started this entire rage of insanity, and all because it cost little to make, no writers to pay, and just exploitation of human bad nature and behavior.

It does serve as an example of just how low we can go..........
