Favorite TV shows, series, or programs? Or, TV you've hated:

Postby MurphOnMillerAve » Thu Jan 26, 2017 8:23 pm

Tops on my list of favorite television "experiences" have been and are:
House of Lies
Californication
Shameless
Ray Donovan

I have liked them because they are very unique and take me places I have never been on my own.

And there are several more...
Murph

I'll second Murph's four and add Homeland to the list. Still miss Californication and House of Lies - not much new out there that matches these for good writing and acting.

Hated: just about every "reality TV" ever aired and almost everything on Home & Garden......

Fav's: Working on that list

If you wanna see something really nauseating , shows such as "New Jersey Housewives" or "California housewives" or something along the lines of that wording , prepare to not be able to endure a moment beyond 3-4 minutes, max. Talk about vapid, vacuous ,self-centered narcissistic tarts - yeeegods , the gold-digging vanity is on an industrial-strength level ! I've seen groups of gorillas with more class and consideration for others.

And the worst part is, one of their number has become a "celebrity" even though she doesn't act, sing, dance, or entertain other than pose, suck in her cheeks (the upper set) and distend the lower ones, far as she can push 'em outward.

Am I being harsh?

No. Accurate and restrained - it seems that the overwhelming majority of the people on these reality shows are not people you'd ever want to actuall meet, know, talk to, interact with, etc - I guess they all fall into that same category as watching a train wreck....

You make a really good point. Not a one of them could I bear to be in the same room with under any circumstances , not even at a wake.

IMO, women who are that self-absorbed suck all the air and life out of a room, not to mention all the attention and notice, which they have no tolerance of sharing. It's all just too unhealthy to be near and definitely not something to have children, particularly girls, witness.

What particularly amuses me about that ilk is not so much the thick layers of makeup, clearly applied with a putty-knife, and the exaggerated cleavage and inflated rears, but the complaint , ever at-the-ready, that they are being "objectified !!! Why object? Have they presented themselves as minds and spirits to be noticed?

And for whom is all that makeup and jewelry intended to be impressive? The men ?! Ha! I have never heard a single man say he couldn't wait to get his hands onto all that paint. Does a man, particularly a gentleman, seek out a woman based on the size and abundance of her jewelry? Uh huh . Just whom are they trying to impress? Each other? If not, who else?

Yes, and also themselves since that have nothing of real substance to define who they are - empty and artificial people.

The real question is why they and all of the other zero talent, zero accomplishment "celebrities" ever merit any attention to start with - why does anyone care? Does that in part speak very much of those that follow them, read about, watch, etc., these people. Are they as vacuous as those that they are watching?

If the network lost money these shows would never air. People want this crap. Not these people here. ladies sitting at home with saggy boobs and small diamond rings. they want it. they want the glamour life. Plastic surgeons that make your face look like a ducks arse.(you know the look). I just cant figure out the guy who gets married to these ladies.

Did you ever see the so-called "cat lady" of NYC society who had her face carved so many times (paid for by her husband's money of course) she went from the duck's butt you refer to to a breathtaking horror that could scare a car. She's still around, I've heard.

I like the Simpsons, the older big bang episodes and Monk. I would watch night stalker from the top of the steps. until my parents would spot and whisk me off to bed. I don't really remember any of them. Maybe i like the act of staying up a little later. I don't get to watch much tv unless i'm on the road. then i fall a sleep to it in a hotel room. They say the average adult watches 33 hours of tv a week. I don't how. Sounds like bs. to me.
I shot a sizzle reel with the guys i work with. we have been trying to get a show picked up for 2 years now. It got to the top executives of travel channel. they tweaked it some much it almost became desperate housewives. They felt we had a core group that worked good on camera. we just lacked a lot of drama. We have a large customer base of famous people that were willing to go on tv with their collections of art and antiques. The network loved that part and would have loved it more if i broke antiques while restoring them. After 2 years they decided we did not meet their demographics. Then last month the called and said "lets shoot a test pilot"(As if it's not dangerous enough flying a machine for the first time  ). we're going to give it a second try. With a whole new format.

As I am sure you are aware, a good story MUST have conflict, preferably internal and external .
Plus, America likes happy endings, even if it's just a commercial or a cooking competition .

Conflict and resolve. Plus they want to bring in a new secretary with big boobs and duck lips :o. A shop full of guys does not cut it. They are really after the story line of us doing martial arts 4 times a week at 5:30 am before work. They like how the past days conflict is resolved during our work out.

This will just be a start. No particular order.
Lonesome Dove.
Star Trek. ( I wrote letters.)
Addams Family
Any of the Bob Newhart shows especially the one in the inn.
Johnny Carson.
Steve Allen.
Jackie Gleason.
Green Acres. Everyone you have ever known is in it.
NCIS.
Dean Martin.
The Virginian.
High Chaparral.
In the Heat of the Night.
