Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hopes that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

Look at all of those angles on the building in the back.

Steam powered. The building far right has a stack for the boiler. Then a covered walkway into what is most likely the engine room. Maybe a belt driven dynamo in the main building or most likely direct drive from the engine.

"The Hotel Edison at Fourth and Market Sts., stands on the location on which Thomas A. Edison illuminated the first building in the world with incandescent electric light. The plaque at the entrance to the Hotel tells the story."

So says the card caption. No idea...never been to Sunbury (been past it a few times on Rte 15).
I remember picking up this card somewhere and wondering why Edison chose Sunbury for such a momentous bit of work. I would have thought this would have occurred in New Jersey, or Schenectady, a place with a more prominent Edison footprint.

I'll take a stab at this. What little i remember from my 10th grade history teacher. Edison wanted to stick it in the face of the gas company. The whole town of Sunbury was illuminated by gas. He was able to use his new system of lighter gauge wire throughout the hotel. Edison's wire made it cost effective not his light bulb!! On a side note. I remember my grandfather saying that electric company would give you free light bulbs.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes
