Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Frank,
"I have no regrets" and you will always remember that incident.
And even if not at that exact time, you had FUN.

Oh heck yeah, Murph!!! I used to stuff whole news papers down the front of my leather jacket for extra insulation from cold of riding in upstate NY!! Now you can purchase heated wind suits that plug into your bikes electrical system. What elite pikers!!!!

The blonde chick that managed the shop was pretty hot though.
Same can be said for the shop in Kitty Hawk, NC. Went in there once looking for a replacement brake part...they sent us to a shop forty miles inland. Nothing but tee shirts, bandannas and other ephemera. No parts, no bikes, and everyone in there had all of their original teeth.

Healey, LMAO!!!!!!! That's when the old saying comes in: Run!! Don't walk!!!!!

No warmer on four wheels!

Lovely ride with my son in the Midget for the New Year.
I remember riding my old Trumpet and the fact rain is hard. So were cicadas; one flew up at the side of the road and I knew he was destined for my forehead as soon as I saw him come up. Had a huge welt like a third eye for a week...
Happy New Year to you all!

That's so very true, Roger. I don't think a person can be on a motorcycle and not have fun. IMHO.

I never would have thought of that - pretty resourceful!
And regarding riding a motorcycle in Upstate NY, which seems to me to be ideal, I am still tempted, every time I am up there ( 3 - 4 x's a year) to buy a Honda at a dealership I have seen for years in Cortland.
Another remarkable bike riding experience, though during a totally different season, was riding the highways (Westside Highway; Harlem River Drive, etc.) along the entire circumference of Manhattan on a warm summer's evening. The lights. The breeze. The sights. The whole feel - more easily accessible in a saddle than enclosed in a car - of a place of 11million people. I'm glad I indulged myself with such adventures when I was young and strong enough to enjoy them with impunity.

You don't mention another thing, whether bike or open sportscar. The smells; people cooking outdoors in the summer, the different smells of the chimney-smoke in winter, fall leaves, spring blossoms, fresh mown grass...

When I got out of the service in Nov. '72, I rode my 750 Honda anytime there were dry roads. Rode it in January with just a T-shirt and a Levi Jacket with no liner! I'd never ride it in the snow, as anytime after 8 or 10 beers, I was a danger to myself even on dry roads.
For snow, I preferred the sure footedness of my '63 Chrysler Newport.

Re: Hobo Jungle
this is haw a harley shop should look. It's an independent shop. Nick Muth's in Williamstown NJ. Guys that turn wrenches here have battle scars. This is not a stealership. Most of the guys work out of a chicken coup.

Re: Hobo Jungle
In 1980 I flew a Great Lakes biplane from Painesville, Ohio to Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin to compete in an aerobatic contest.
Even at 2500 feet Gary, Indiana smelled bad.
Part of the trip was in 55º weather with rain. I was protected by the windshield but every couple of minutes a puddle of water would form at the bottom left corner of the windshield. When it reached a certain size it would detach and the airstream would deposit it on my neck at the top of my jacket collar. When I got out of the plane my jacket was mostly dry on the outside but I was soaked to the skin and shivering.

You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.
