Scacey mate.
And wearing a Cam Smock as well I suppose you had the winter liner inside it to !
I would have thought a "Flat Cap" with a pom pom in the centre, would have looked more appropriate probably would have blow off at the first curve.
Good on yah mate I'm glad your enjoying yourself I'm really happy for you mate..

Tom yes, the black car had centerlines and the Red car were Australian made. I hate to say it but the Centerlines were the best by far beautiful wheels.
I'm out of that now I drive a little Ford Fiesta that just putters around the suburbs and guess what?
I'm happy because I can spend more on my trains!

Nev, mate

Oh look! See Nev. See Nev's headover.

I thought I remembered you posting a photo on your Operating Day thread of you wearing something on that old bald head of yours when you're out in the bush, and you're only walking! Tough old Airborne soldier indeed...

Or maybe we're just too dam smart to be miserable just for appearances.

I'm laughing; take the mick out of me, will ya!

Cheers, mate!

Getting away from Scace for a minute (Sorry mate!)
Those Dinky toy racing cars I have seen in England at swap meets and shows sometimes the price is right other times to much.
I go there every year I'll keep an eye out.
I tend to look at older Dinky cars especially the American versions in fact apart from the English military series that's all I'm interested in.

I had those Dinky racing cars as a kid. My favorite was the Cooper it went the best. Our playground at school was sharply tilted on the long diagonal, we used to race our cars and the winner won by a process of elimination, small stones and pavement irregularities caused cars to spin out or roll over.

Then Corgi came out with the Vanwall - same 'scale' - and it had suspension, what a difference that made! It was such an advantage that popular opinion banned it from competing with the old race cars.

My race car driver hero was Mike Hawthorn, gosh that takes me back seeing those old Dinky toys.

LA County hit 10 million last year, thats the county. So Pick Your Part BIG junkyard I used to frequent before I got so darned old would occasionally get a rare old unusual or classic car of some sort.
They save nothing, they got recycled just as in the picture above.

It's not been a bad fall this year. Last year at this time we were snowed under with a good eight inches the night before Thanksgiving. This year the weather has been kind, and the little open cars have yet to go into hibernation.

Evening comes early, now, but all the lights work just fine on Grrr the Midget; wots this Lucas-the-prince-o-darkness nonsense, anyway?

So, a Happy Thanksgiving to all the train-and-petroheads who have been following and contributing to this thread!

Sarge, how I understand the emotion in that photo. Nice!

I've written a new column about cars. It begins like this. If there is any interest I will add the rest before publication.

About every five years I get an overwhelming desire that I don’t seem able to control for at least a week or two. My only excuse is—as they say—I get it honest.

It all started before I was born when my father was racing cars for the MG factory during the late 1940s. He had a highly modified and tuned MG-TD, which had been sorted by an Italian mechanic called Pennante who had actually machined engines for Enzo Ferrari. My father sponsored Pennante’s entrance into Canada after the war, and Pennante did his part by turning my father’s car into one of the fastest in the under 1,500cc category. “He polished the inlet ports until they shone like a mirror.”

All was well until a hill climb race at Mount Equinox in Vermont. I still have photos from that rainy dark day in 1951, and I found an online magazine article verifying my father’s story—all of his stories, it has turned out, were not necessarily true.

The “Climb to the Clouds” article reads: “The most outstanding performance was put in by Max Hoffman, driving a Porsche. Max took the 1½ Ltr. Convertible to the finish line in 4 minutes and 38 seconds, 18 ½ seconds faster than the MG-TD driven by Marshall Green.”
That a life will be spent gaining inches,
When this distance is read in miles.

Tramp, the column sounds great...can't wait to read "the rest of the story".

Sarge, took a walk with the dogs this AM and nearly froze to death (or so it seemed)...you have a stouter constitution than this Border-State boy.

We had some good days this 2015:

...looking forward to many more in 2016.

Here's hopin' your turkey's not dry and your beer's cold. Have a good Thanksgiving everyone.

I spent the better part of yesterday cleaning out my mother's garage. In some kind of adult way i have decided to park my mustang cobra convertible. a true sad moment this car was the last of the 302 motors. Ford built the last 1000 as cobra convertibles and gave them number tags. Mine is #968. Drove it everyday for 20 years. except snow days. still has less then 95,000 on the clock. I guess a classic tag and sunny days are in order now. Anyway while cleaning i found this before photo of my Harley 45 project. I hope everybody can enjoy thanksgiving with good friends, family and a warm bird :)

Tramp:

I wouldn't kick a TD out of the workshop even today. Yep, there are faster cars, but dam they are lovely machines. Looking forward to see the next installment.

You guys look like you're having fun. Healey, how many inches of length did you have to add to that Midget to get yourself into it?

Last weekend I moved the snowblower from the back garage to the front garage, stuffed the garden tractor into the back corner of the back garage and squeezed the Crossfire in. The 3 to 6" of snow we were supposed to get turned out to be a light dusting. The car will come back out if the weather stays fair.

Last year the mice used the synthetic horsehair in the Crossfire's seats to build a comfy nest in the heater inlet. I bought some mothballs to spread around the car but wonder if anyone has a better system to keep the mice away.

I've been trying for over a year to get my driveway resurfaced. This has been complicated by the need to replace the culvert under the driveway and the requirement to get a permit from the state Department of Transportation. After taking measurements and submitting drawings I got the permit but also a phone call telling me that my drawing showed my driveway to be on my neighbor's property. Turns out the GIS map the DOT uses has the property line in the wrong place by about 16'. Visited the county engineer's office and think I have that straightened out. The contractor showed up Wednesday and replaced the culvert and covered it with compacted fine gravel, the new asphalt will have to wait until spring.

The car is halfway up the drive in this older photo. The road is 70' behind the car and about 15' below it.
