Re the vent. Overhead powered cars used resistance heaters under some of the seats to heat the car. Power was unlimited for heating and lighting purposes. Now, in this case, power availability was necessarily limited by the battery capacity. Heating power requirements in a deep winter might have equaled the traction power in some cases. In light if this my vote goes to a wood or coal powered heating stove, maybe thermosyphon hot water, with radiators along the sides of the seats. Note the window arrangements. None are frosted over indicating a separate loo compartment. Unless the throne was out in the open? Naw! Only long distance interurban cars had toilets, not city cars like this one. Passengers just had to hold it for the less than 30 minute trip.

I had written off a toilet for the same reasons.

Small stove/heating source of some sort does seem reasonable.

Self propelled, Roger. Note the folded down trolley pole on the roof.

Yes, I see the pole but many of the plows for steam roads, whether steam,diesel or electric were not self propelled.
The engine or motor was for the plow use only. Must say I have never seen a trolley plow so don't know.

The style plow shown on No. 4 probably does not need a motor for the plow, just a traction motor to propel it into the snow.
This one, No. 337, needs separate motors for traction and the plow's:

December 29, 1952, was the last day regularly scheduled cars ran in this area. There were a few fan trips during the scrapping of these cars.

Caving in to public pressure, the Los Angeles City Council designated the Substation and Tunnel Portal a historical landmark,
but refused to set the land aside to prevent future commercial development around the site.
As a result, the Belmont Apartments were built around the landmarks, allowing no public access to them.

You can't get in, but they did build a fence to allow the curious to peak at the station and tunnel.

I agree. Those four-way non-adjustable lights are bee's knees. I have a Crouse-Hinds version somewhere in my hoard; I really need to get it back together and hung up in the yard.

I suspect that the direction arrows were for the auto traffic.
