Hobo Jungle
Re: Hobo Jungle
Jon, I heard a rumor that you're quitting the hobby. Let me buy you a beer and you can tell me what's going on. Though I should talk. I haven't even been upstairs in weeks to get my Hudson sorted. Let's have a beer anyway, okay?

Tramp,
I have not seen Jon for about ten days. I heard that he is spending time over at the topless bar. We need to go over there and let him know that we miss him.

Re: Hobo Jungle
Wayne, those topless bars can definitely skew your perceptions about playing with toy trains. I've seen this kind of thing before, and it can be very ugly. If he's been there for over ten days . . . Yikes!

Re: Hobo Jungle
Might be difficult to extract Jon - he obviously started off at an early age and has clearly progressed.......

Back in the day, procedure was to soak a Brooks saddle in 30 weight motor oil, drain it, and ride 'til it conformed to you.
Tramp, I know you are not a military man, but I fear we are going to have to go in for an extraction in the case of Jon.

Re: Hobo Jungle
I kept my Brooks soft with neatsfoot oil. According to the late Sheldon "Hidebound" Brown saddles broken in with 30 weight motor oil tend to wear out after only 300,000 miles.
Roger and I are geared up. Who is leading this extraction?

That late October glow has settled on New England like a harp with new strings played by a faded beauty (ripe, pendulous, clairvoyant) who's been on a week-long SG bender and loving every second more than . . . imagine that perfect chromatic leaf rotating slowly downwards after hanging on for three (2 1/2) seasons.
Anyone want a Friday night beer and a short? Whatever your issues, whatever your problems, whatever your desires—I'll buy one round. Any takers?

Re: Hobo Jungle
No extraction needed, but thanks for the offer! I'll take you up un a jack of ale, though! I've been through a long national guard weekend and then straight to combat lifesaver school. Pretty gory stuff but some valuable skills learned.
Andre, I left a couple of messages on your cell phone, do you have a new number?
Also my Weaver brass sanding tower arrived and I'll post some shots when I get it opened. Right now we're nursing my son's fever and cough.

Please, let us know how that is going. If I may offer you my concern and advice, make sure any possible tightness or heaviness or discomfort in his chest isn't due to a gradual build-up of fluid; have a doctor listen to his chest/lungs.
(You probably already know that, but I just couldn't let this go by without paying you this respect of offering advice.)
Re: Hobo Jungle
Thanks, Murph! For safety's sake, the wife has taken him to the clinic for a diagnosis. Our concern is his teacher notified us parents that one student in his class was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus.

Re: Hobo Jungle
"Amen" to what Murph said. Kids are especially vulnerable, and now's the time to be vigilant.
People who are 40-and-up are supposed to have an advantage after a lifetime of viral exposure having built up/toughened their immune systems, but kids have no such advantage.
My hospital has taken a fairly extraordinary step of closing/locking most of the entrance doors, barring any kids under 12 from doing any visiting, and at the doors that are open, having interviews and 'screening' of each and every person who comes in. And I've heard of some hospitals even barring anyone with a respiratory syndrome from even getting into their emergency rooms, setting up tents and healthcare outside for such folk.
We've been pounded for months with daily e-mail/notices/educational info about this.
As a 'health-care-worker', I'm getting my H1N1 vaccine on Monday. I'd surrender it in a NY heartbeat if I could transfer it to my kids. How ironic- at my age, I'm one of the safest and my kids among the most vulnerable.
Jon, keep us posted about our Jungle mascot there.
