Cincinnati, Ohio, 1907:

How often were twin trolley-poles used? One does not see many period photos with them in use, so I'm suspecting it may have been uncommon.

When I first looked at this photo, my eye was drawn to the ornamentation on the church steeple. Thought they were cell-network antennae, lol.

Healey

a MY-'muse' for you,

Trollies with two poles received both sides, 'ground'-'hot', in/out, of the electrical
circuit thru the overhead wires, rather than one side being the running rails and the
other being the overhead.

Electricity was a relatively 'new' source of power replacing 'hay-burners' and steam, for trolley
motivation, and many had more respect (and fear) of it at the time.

Where used? - Others can answer. Possibly many, dependant on time.

Los Angeles used twin poled, rubber tired, trolley buses into the early 1960's.
This was the RTD and NOT the Pacific Electric.

Thanks for that, MY. Hadn't occurred to me that it was "hot" and "ground"...I was thinking more along the lines of redundant "hot" (which, in hindsight, probably makes no sense).

Cincinnati, Ohio, I think had some two wire lines that were eventually used by the trolley buses.
Possibly also Dayton, Ohio.
Or I just might be remembering wrong.

Big celebration happened or about to happen.
Water puddles in the street. Rain or washed down before or after the parade?

I remember that street.
By the clothing worn by the men it could have been into the early 1950s.
The streets would be more crowded by cars and trucks and the trolleys
would look a bit different in most cases.

Summit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, 1905:

Streetlights of a style similar to prewar Lionel's. Nice to see people out and about, no social-distancing.

That's very interesting picture. Presumably the trolley line built further up the hillside for lack of space at road-level. Nice little timber-truss bridge carrying the road over the stream.

Lots of great modeling potential and scenery. Really makes me wish I'd been able to run something like that into the planning of my layout.

That's the doylestown to Easton trolley. Above Easton rd. Now named rt611. Looks to be in the Ferndale area.
