Now, here are some fuggly ones for you.... lol

The two hoppers are hand lettered and all the cars were modified with scale dummy couplers ala Walthers, fake coal load etc.

Sort of like the old Model Builder mags showed you back in the day...

Most people would throw this stuff away or use it for parts but I like em in some twisted sort of way lol

Is that a Marx gate? I don't recall seeing one with the "joint" in the middle. Pretty cool.

List that stuff under the Marx section...someone will snap it up.

Yup, that's what I recall from the mags, but locomotive conversions as well. I have a couple copies of the old Model Railroaders' Digest that, like Model Builder, illustrated numerous tinplate loco conversions done in the years immediately before WWII. Here's an example from MRD that appeared in Hertz's book Collecting Model Trains:

Image

The top one is made from Lionel 260/260E bits, while the bottom one is from a Lionel 259/259E. I know you've done a bit of this sort of thing, Dennis, and the work and the results are still pretty interesting. It says a lot about the skillsets people had, or chose to have, back then, versus what they have today.

Dennis Holler wrote:BTW, I like your Marx clockwork loco. I am pretty sure Marx was still making some clockwork trains right up till the end in 1974 when Louis sold it all.

That's actually an electric I picked up at York a few sessions back. Here's a pic that Wayne posted a few years back of the clockwork set I had:

My brother got the same set the next year. We combined the two ovals of track and all of the cars to make a bigger pike and consist. Ran over a lot of green army men with that

Auel trucks are 17/64 scale, put an Auel Andrews next to an Athearn Andrews and you will see.

My biggest complaint about Auel (at least the ones that I have managed to acquire) is that the vast majority are un-insulated for outside third rail so I can only use a very few of the ones that I do have for traction freight cars.

My favorite older trucks are Lobaugh. I have a couple of dozen or more of them.
