Ideas for storing files

All:

I'm wrestling with how best to store larger files in my workshop. I would prefer to hang them on some sort of pegboard hooks. The problematic ones are those without handles. See photo.

I could throw them in a bin, I suppose, but I keep thinking there is some other way.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas?

You might be able to get some secondhand, either at a swap meet, or on ebay.

Pay the extra money for the screw on type as the push in type lose their grip on the file tang over time, usually at the most inoportune moment. Then take a board and drill openings for the files so that they hang in it retained from falling through by the handles you have applied.

Pay the extra money for the screw on type as the push in type lose their grip on the file tang over time, usually at the most inoportune moment. Then take a board and drill openings for the files so that they hang in it retained from falling through by the handles you have applied.

Sounds like a good idea. Was just in a Home Depot and found a plastic handle (push-on style) for $9.99.

Needless to say, I'll figure something else out.

What makes you think that? Not one of the new files I have ever purchased came with handles. I still have files in the original clear vinyl pouches that have no room for handles.
Some of mine do NOW, but I purchased them separately, and most are a PITA to get to stay on in use.

George mentioned, and showed, larger files. Yes, I also have jeweler's files that came without handles.

Mine are BIG. Automotive and woodworking. Not one came with handles new.

None of my files came with handles either.
The files that we had in wood and metal shop in high school, some of which dated back to the 1930s, did not originally have handles.
When we asked a shop teacher why they didn't have handles he said that handles almost doubled the cost. We asked if we could make
some using scrap wood and turning them on the lathes. We gpt permission and went to it. Got some experience, did something
useful and got a grade for it too. I know that some of the files and most of the handles were still in use twenty five years later.

That would have been in the days when it was more important to fund the shop class and give the kids an usable education instead of later on when funding the football team was more important.

Interesting. The larger files I bought fairly recently came from Pep Boys. They all had handles.
